Lesson PowerPoint for Workshop 1
Teaching in Workshop 1
The project employs "citizen science approach” (「公民科學形式」) to propagate tree knowledge through learning key concepts and skills of Visual Tree Assessment (「目視樹木評估」) by citizens and students. At the beginning of the project, we have received 5-days of training in learning about what is life education, environmental education and the use of Tree Portal. Tree Portal is a website and mobile app that combined the elements of education and research related to urban trees through Visual Tree Assessment. After the training, student ambassador will form groups and initiate several workshops for secondary and primary school. I was selected as the group leader of the group and was responsible to communicate with the staff in EdUHK and Shau Kei Wan East Government Secondary School. Throughout the progress, I have been involved in designing the lesson plan, lesson PowerPoint and reflective card. Apart from designing lesson materials, I have also participated in teaching and guiding students in the workshop.
Looking back on the whole project, I would like to take this opportunity to appreciate some of the teammates who have overcome a lot of ups and downs with me which is the first time for me to take up the role of leader in environmental educational events. Without the effort from Micheal (EdU), Harris (EdU), Kristy(EdU) and Scarlett (OUHK), the workshops we arranged would not be that successful.
SWOT Analysis Model for this Experience
Materials provided for the field trip
Firstly, I have a comprehensive preparation on the content of the talks, the schedules and materials in order to obtain perfection within the workshop. Before the start of the workshop, I would practice all the parts in which I was involved again and again, so that I would not nervous when I stand on the stage or talk with the students. Apart from practising, I would also double-check whether the number of materials is enough or not one day before the workshops, so that I could ensure there will be no any problems or chaos occurred in the workshop. As a leader of the team, I also helped in-charge of the administration of the workshop such as arranging the transportation, etc. The detailed information not only sent to the staff in EdUHK, but also my teammates in order to ensure the fluency of the workshop.
Secondly, I would consider myself a responsible student. Even though the time schedule of the workshop has clashed with the deadline of the assignments. Unlike some of the students, I would not disappear or not show up in the meeting or skip the workshop.
Firstly, it would be better for me in accepting the defects within teaching materials. I would consider myself a perfectionist, I would only pass the best version of materials to the supervisors for review, so sometimes I would delay the deadline for submitting the draft of the materials. This reduces the time for supervisors in checking the materials and may ruin the activities if the problem is serious. On the other hand, the burden or workload of my teammates would be heavier. Luckily, my teammates are patient and willing to work with me. Receiving the suggestions and feedback received from my supervisor after the end of the project. I decided to think twice in order to strike a balance between the quality, time and capability of my teammates so that the time management would be better if I participate similar event.
Secondly, it would be better for me not to text or post any message during midnight as the time outside the office hour would be the "me time" for others. Before the start of the project, as a student, I don't have any concept on the general rules in communicating with those who are working. It is not a good practice to text someone at midnight especially it is related to work which others may not like it. Receiving the suggestions and feedback received from my supervisor after the end of the project. I decided not to text any message through Whatsapp or other social media platforms after office hour. It would be better for me to text the message in the morning or send an email instead.

The experience of this project provides me an opportunity to exchange ideas with different principle, lecturers and other senior classmates. They aided me on various occasions, such as by providing numerous advice and suggestions regarding my career path, for which I will always be grateful and useful for my career pathway. Moreover, the project provides a time for me to realize and review my own weaknesses and strengths. My communication and presentation skills could benefit me in presenting my ideas and cooperating with other, such as how I could deliver it systematically and fluently to others, in my future career pathway.
The project also provides an inspiration for me to reflect on how to step further in. Not only consolidate what we have learnt in the lesson, but also how we could apply knowledge innovatively. By integrating life education and environmental education, participants could connect their daily lives with environmental protection. moreover, vitally, they could even reflect on the connection and stress the importance between mother nature and human through the experience. In turns, motivate and incubate students or participants’ responsibility in applying what they have reflected from the learning. Such integration could help us achieve the highest hierarchy of the three-fold approach in environmental education, and which is the education for the environment in the activities or events.
Design of Reflective Card
Although I had a hard time during the project as I have spent a lot of time in making the materials, the learning experience and the friendship we built from the experience truly worthy no matter is present, the future. I strongly trust that my time and effort paid within the project will play an important part in cultivating my passion for being an environmental educator or environmental literate person. After this project, I was strongly dedicated in pursuing as an environmental educator. This activity has also motivated me to seize similar experiences to equip myself again in the upcoming future. I'm feeling the seed germinated in the last experience was growing quickly.
