According to 2021 census data, over 8% of the Hong Kong population are non-ethnic Chinese. In a culturally diverse city like Hong Kong, what are the needs of ethnic minority students? From our inherent understanding of them as "marginalized groups", how can we gradually to engage ethnic minority adolescents in the community, boost their cultural confidence, and be successful in different fields? Globalization and multicultural education are the future trends in Hong Kong's education sector. As a future education practitioner, how should you prepare yourselves and enhance your cultural sensitivity?
Mr Lo Yuk Kwong, who is currently the Assistant Principal of the Caritas Wu Cheng-Chung Secondary School. In 2018, he founded a social enterprise, Kabaddi United Hong Kong. Kabaddi is a sport that originated in South Asia. Ethnic minority adolescents are trained to be coaches and cultural ambassadors through Kabaddi. This initiative integrates them into the community, boosting their confidence, thereby fostering racial inclusion in Hong Kong.
