The project launch of Inclusion and Equity for Hong Kong's Diverse Classrooms was held successfully on 28 August 2020. The launch attracted over 60 participants, including classroom teachers, assistant principals, non-governmental organization representatives, Heads of Department and staff members of EdUHK.
The event commenced with an opening remark by Prof Kwok-tung TSUI, Acting Dean of FEHD. The Project Leader Dr Jan GUBE introduced the project and Prof Kerry KENNEDY Emeritus Professor & Advisor, discussed the role of teacher education in addressing equity and inclusion. A dialogue with Ms Payal Biswas explored her work at Hong Kong Unison on identity workshops for youths in ethnic minority communities.
The talks and dialogue revealed the experiences and challenges faced by ethnic minorities, where participants actively discussed instances of racial discrimination, and structural barriers in society. The launch ended with lively debates and discussions that point to the importance of promoting diversity and inclusion within the education sector.
