Every generation has created words and even modes of communication that only they speak fluently; today’s kids have even resorted to modern-day hieroglyphics (aka emojis.) Not only do these communication shifts cause a language barrier, but so can the actual emotions of a growing student. We each have our own stories, experiences, and backgrounds that we bring to the classroom, so how do we connect with kids who seem drastically different from us and sometimes speak a foreign-to-us language altogether?
