Field Trips to Fire Academies, Police Academies, State Trooper Headquarters, Court Houses, and more offer students opportunities to learn from professionals in the field as well practice skills learned in the classroom.
Training Opportunities such as Stop the Bleed, CBRN, Incident Command and FEMA certifications provide students with relevant certifications that are transferrable to future positions.
Crime Scene Investigations provide students with opportunities to apply their knowledge of securing crime scenes and analysis of forensic evidence. Mock Trial experiences help students understand the importance of evidence, interviewing and report writing within the court process.
Team Building opportunities in annual field day events bring classes together as they compete and support one another in a series of physical challenges. Classroom experiences require students to work as teams to address a variety of public emergencies through simulations.
Work-Based Learning Experiences offer opportunities experience the day-to-day operations of the assigned agency. This is the culminating senior experience.
Seniors who are 18 years of age by June 1st are eligible to attend the Monmouth County Police Academy’s SLEO I course. Students choosing this option create professional resumes and participate in mock interviews so that they are prepared to apply, interview and accept positions as Class I Officers with local police departments. Graduates of this training program often find permanent positions in local police departments. Graduates are currently working in Asbury Park, Avon, Bradley Beach, Spring Lake and Lavallette.
Senior students wishing to pursue a degree in Fire Science can attend Mercer County College’s Concurrent Enrollment Program. Junior and Senior students can do the same with the Middlesex High School Scholars Program. Depending upon the program students will leave school two days a week and travel to Mercer’s Dempster Fire Training Center to attend classes or take evening classes at Middlesex College. Students wishing to pursue a degree in criminal justice or homeland security are afforded the possibility of earning 3 credits through a post-articulation agreement with Brookdale Community College.
