On Saturday, April 18 beginning at 10:00 AM, Mercer County Community College will be hosting Discover Mercer, a new take on our Spring Open House, a campus-wide event designed to give prospective students a true feel for college life at Mercer. This event is intended to mirror the experience of visiting a four-year institution, allowing students to explore academic programs, meet faculty and current students, and learn more about the opportunities available to them after high school.
The day will include a welcome session with campus leadership, followed by 30-minute program sessions across a variety of academic areas. Students will also have the opportunity to tour campus, connect with support services, and engage with staff from admissions, financial aid, and student life.

In cooperation with the New Jersey Forest Fire Service, we are hosting a field based workshop in May 2024 for students interested in careers in fire in the New Jersey Pine Barrens. The Fire Camp will provide opportunities for students and early-career natural resource professionals to develop technical skills through the ecological application of prescribed fire.
The Fire Camp will accept up to 15 persons to participate in a 4-day session that explores various prescribed fire applications for hazardous fuel reduction, habitat management, silviculture, and/or other ecological objectives. Through this hands-on program, participants have have opportunities to work on individual tasks in open National Wildland Coordinating Group (NWCG) Position Task Books (PTB); hone technical skills relating to prescribed fire application; and expand their understanding of fuels, fire behavior, and fire ecology. Participants will work in the New Jersey pinelands and engage with fire practitioners, fire scientists, foresters, and other natural resource professionals to supplement fire effects and fire use learning.
The fee for Fire Camp participation, which will cover meals, lodging, and all Camp activities, is $100. Financial assistance is available by writing to NAFSEhelp@gmail.com (once accepted).

Stockton CSI is a residential summer camp for high school students (and those who will enter high school in the fall) who would like hands-on experience with a homicide investigation and trial. The camp has been featured on The Today Show and in The Wall Street Journal.
Campers will work alongside criminal justice and forensic psychology professionals as part of an elite team to help solve a murder. They will be involved with every phase of the investigative and legal process, from a crime scene investigation to a criminal trial. Campers will also go meet attorneys, criminologists, and professionals from the Atlantic County Medical Examiner's Office, the Air Marshal Training Center, and the Atlantic County Jail.

Trooper Youth Week is a residential youth education program developed by the New Jersey State Police. This program presents simulated law enforcement programs for male and female students who have completed their junior year and are entering their senior year of High School. Additionally, sophomores who are currently 17 years of age may also be eligible. The Applicant must not have reached their 18th birthday prior to the graduation date of their Trooper Youth Week class.
The week's activities include lectures and presentations covering many facets of police work and criminal justice. Participants will be exposed to a disciplined quasi-military environment, including military drill in combination with structured fast moving programs of classroom activities, lectures, films, practical exercises and physical training, simulating the NJSP recruit training experience.
The program emphasizes courtesy, professionalism, respect and teamwork. Additional presentations will include strategies for anger management, conflict resolution and cultural diversity.
Additional subjects matters presented include:
History and functions of the New Jersey State Police
Crime scene investigation techniques
Motor Vehicle Law and Safety
How to respond assertively in communicating their individual choices
How laws concerning alcohol and other drug related behavior affect young people

EDWARD D. HAGGERTY MEMORIAL VOLUNTEER FIREFIGHTER SCHOLARSHIP (All FRHSD Students)
The family of Edward D. Haggerty is proud to announce that we are offering a scholarship to a graduating senior from any school in the Freehold Regional High School District. Ed Haggerty dedicated over fifty (50) years of his life to the world of firefighting, starting at age sixteen (16). Fighting fires and responding to ambulance calls as an Emergency Medical Technician, Ed helped many of his fellow citizens during his time as a volunteer with Company #19 in Lansdowne, PA., and Company #1 in Darby, PA. This scholarship in his memory is intended to assist students who are, like Ed was, dedicated to helping others in need. Specifically, we are seeking applicants, based on the criteria below, who are committed to active community service through volunteer and/or professional firefighting.
One (1) - $250.00 Scholarship per year
Scholarship Criteria:
A minimum of one (1) year service as an active volunteer firefighter- in good standing.
To verify service a signed letter on Fire Department letterhead is required, indicating time of active service, and any distinctions earned-if applicable.
On track to graduate from FRHSD and accepted into a 4- or 2-Year College, University, Academy, Specialized/Technical School, or signed an agreement to enlist in the Military upon graduation. (A copy of your acceptance letter or agreement must be attached to the application.)
Application Criteria:
Submit a 350-500-word essay on the following topic: “How has your involvement in the Fire Department affected your idea of citizenship and community service and what will you take from it into your future endeavors?”
Evaluation Criteria - Scholarship will be evaluated by the family of Edward D. Haggerty, who will attend the Senior Awards Ceremony to present the award in person.

The goal of the Monmouth County Citizen Police Academy and Law Enforcement Mini Academy is to foster and promote an understanding by high school students interested in possible careers in law enforcement, AND citizens in Monmouth County, of the services offered and challenges facing the law enforcement agencies in the county. It is envisioned that graduates of the Citizen Police Academy and Law Enforcement Mini Academy will gain awareness and appreciation of the services provided by these agencies and will become “goodwill ambassadors” for the law enforcement and public safety community. This Academy is also a pre-requisite for participation as a volunteer in the VISCOMP (Volunteers in Sheriff’s Community Programs.)
Applications are available online by visiting www.mcsonj.org click on Community Outreach, click on Citizen Police Academy and Law Enforcement Mini Academy and download an application, or by calling Undersheriff Ted Freeman at 732-431-6400 Extension 1110.
Basic requirements for enrollment are:
1. Resident of Monmouth County
2. At least 14 years of age
3. Have own transportation to and from academy and other locations
4. Commitment to attend all six classes
5. Must pass background check (must have no criminal record)
Those applications selected for the next phase are then given a thorough background check, which includes criminal history, driver’s license status and warrant check. Invitations will then be sent to attend the Citizen Police Academy. Citizen Police Academy will be held once a week, on Thursday evenings, from 5:30 PM to approximately 7:30 PM at the Monmouth County Sheriff’s Public Safety Center, 2500 Kozloski Road, Freehold, NJ and other locations. The Academy will have 6 sessions on consecutive Thursday nights from 5:30-7:30 PM.
THERE IS AN OFFICERS MEETING DURING LUNCH ON FRIDAY, JUNE 7TH. ALL OFFICERS FOR THE 2019-2020 SCHOOL YEAR MUST BE PRESENT.
