Diploma Programme students take seven IB courses a year in both their junior and senior years. They choose one course from each of six subject groups which deliver a breadth of knowledge and understanding in:
Group 1: Language and Literature
Group 3: Individuals and Societies
Group 6: The Arts (or another course from Group 2, 3, or 4)
In addition to disciplinary and interdisciplinary study, the DP features three core elements that broaden students’ educational experience and challenge them to apply their knowledge and skills.
Theory of Knowledge (TOK), a course in which students reflect on the nature of knowledge and how we know what we claim to know. It is a course about critical thinking and inquiring into the process of knowing, rather than about learning a specific body of knowledge.
Extended Essay, an independent, externally assessed research into a topic of the student's choosing, resulting in a 4,000-word paper. The extended essay is intended to promote high-level research and writing skills, intellectual discovery and creativity while engaging students in personal research.
Creativity, Action, Service (CAS), organized around the three strands of creativity, activity and service in which the student engages with one or more of the three CAS strands. It can be a single event or an extended series of events students complete a project related to these three concepts.
