Program Description
You’ll be thrown into the mix in a real-world, live-action classroom. With a full service restaurant inspected by the Board of Health and open to the public, this Magnet Program offers you big-time experience honing your skills and preparing for your future better than any traditional classroom.
Feel the energy as you prepare dishes in the fast-moving kitchen and serve paying customers in the dining room. And our expert faculty will be right there to guide and mentor you.
The Culinary Arts & Hospitality Management Magnet Program is a four-year rigorous program of study that consists of a wide range of courses, training, experiences, and activities in the Food Service career path.
Traditionally, the majority of the academy’s graduates continue their education by completing an associate, bachelor, or master level degree in a variety of fields related to the Food Service and Hospitality Industry.
Course work is enhanced by relevant action research projects with opportunity for “hands on” professional skill development through all operational phases of a fully licensed restaurant, the Five Star Café.
Career exploration, leadership activities, community service learning projects and professional skill competitions are available through active membership in the nationally recognized SkillsUSA organization.
Students are prepared for the opportunity to take industry standard safety and sanitation certification tests that are recognized by the National Restaurant Association’s ServSafe.
Career portfolios are developed and serve as proof of completion of this four-year rigorous program, a resource for future post-secondary education classes and a means for career placement opportunities. The Culinary Magnet Program has partnerships with Johnson & Wales University, The Culinary Institute of America and Brookdale Community College that provide students the opportunity to earn college credit.
