Girls Varsity Basketball
Madigan Collver (12-20-22)
Coming off of a sectional title, the varsity girls basketball team is coming back looking to defend their title. After a huge losing their leading rebounder and their two leading scorers to graduation and an injury, they were a little worried when the season started. However, they’ve become a little more confident as the season goes on and their league season approaches. They are currently 1-3, coming off of two tough losses against Randolph and Panama that were both within reach. Struggling to find ways to score on offense, their defense has been the thing keeping them alive. As they continue to improve, especially on their shooting and rebounding, the defensive pressure will pair well as they warm up to the season a bit. They are looking to win their league this year and go to sectionals and regionals again. Although it’s looking rough right now, their non-league schedule was set up to push them and prepare them for the competition coming later in the season.
Girls Junior Varsity Basketball
Madigan Collver (12-20-22)
The JV girls team is currently undefeated. They are a pretty young team, with three 7th graders joining the team this year. They are very quick learners and are aiming to stay undefeated for the 4th season in a row. Being so young, they struggle finding their rhythm during the first half of their games, however, they learn from their mistakes and find a way to win in the second halves. They’ve been working hard to get better and learn everyday, and are looking forward to a very successful season.
Varsity Hockey
Jacey Cappa (12-20-22)
At the termination of the 2021-2022 Jamestown Raiders Varsity Hockey season, they were left empty-handed -- but not out of defeat. They had successfully secured a contesting spot in the State Championships and were looking to earn another state title for our community; however, the tournament was called off and cancelled, leaving the team with only one choice -- compete in and win the state championship this year. One returning player that has caught many teammate’s and spectator’s eyes is Jameson Walsh. Jameson was one of the top goal scorers on the team last year and according to his teammate, Coleson Barber, “he is expected to do it again.” So far, the team is 2-0 in league and 4-1 overall -- a very strong and prominent record for their division. The loss of their seniors and captains last year hit them hard and created some weaknesses: penalties and shots. However, it is said that this is something the team can easily overcome and fix. Although they have endured these weaknesses, they have continued to hold true with their physicality, speed, and passing through team chemistry and continuous practice. This team is expected to come back stronger than ever, and have high hopes that they will bring home the state trophy to our community.
