Boy's Varsity Soccer
Jacey Cappa (11-15-22)
The Frewsburg Boys Varsity Soccer Team is off to a “decent start” according to center midfielder, Zack Carr. The team 3-4-1 in league and 5-5-2 overall have experienced some obstacles since last season. With the loss of Trent Bjork and Giacomo Barbatosta, two starting seniors; Gavin Smith, out for injury; and the loss of a few other essentials players, they have had to adapt. They maintain support from 6 seniors: Zackery Carr, Connor Murray, Brayden Lobb, Jacob Constantino, Lucas Eckman, and Gibson Kinney. Carr has 17 goals and 7 assists, followed by Garrett Brink, junior, with 8 goals and 3 assists. The league is relatively equal in play, making every game intense and high-stake. Which gives them high hopes for playoffs, according to Carr, they believe they “can make a long playoff run.” Keep an eye out for this team starting next week with playoffs!
Girl's Varsity Soccer
Jacey Cappa (11-15-22)
The girls varsity soccer team is off to another great start, currently 11-0 in league play and 6-0 in non-league play. After losing 11 seniors, nobody -- including the players and coaches -- were sure how this season would end up, but it did not disappoint. The girls are currently number one in small schools in the section and in the top 10 of all schools in the state. They have given up one sole shot in the past 5 games, and one goal, nonleague, in the entirety of their season. They are led by senior, Alexandra Hultberg; 16 goals and 13 assists, and sophomore, Ava Jimmerson; 16 goals and 11 assists. However, the goals are not unique to these players and stats are put up throughout the entire team. The team is anticipating their 4th sectional title run, and have high confidence entering their playoffs next week. The only thing left to ask is will this be the team's year to win a state title?
Varsity Football
Madigan Collver (10-17-22)
The football team has had a bit of a rough season this year so far. After winning their first game by more than 50 points, they lost to Portville by quite a bit. They then went to win against JFK, then lost the next 3 games and forfeited one due to injury and sickness. However they closed out the regular season with a strong win against Gowanda winning 27-20 after fighting hard to come back from being down 7-20 at one point. They will now go on to play Portville in the playoffs. Although the team is young and inexperienced, they still had a great season and have come very far since the beginning of the season. They have a good chance to go pretty far in the playoffs and can hopefully keep their season going for a few more weeks.
Girl's Swimming/Diving
Xander Pitts (10-6-22)
The Frewsburg/Falconer Swimming and Diving Team has had a great start to the season this year. The team has faced off against many schools across the county, many times emerging as the winners. The team has recruited many new swimmers and two new divers this year, which shows promising things for the coming years of the swim program. The team has been pushing hard to maintain a winning record, having narrow wins against both Olean and Fredonia, but still coming out on top each time. They have shown promise for the post season this year, being ranked highly in their division with many swimmers continuing to improve as the season progresses. As it seems, the swim-dive team is set up for a great season this year.
Cross-Country
Xander Pitts (10-6-22)
Frewsburg’s cross-country team is showing a stunning performance. With a tight pack at the front of boy’s varsity composed of Juvenal Diaz, Micah Barber, Cody Kent, and Xander Pitts, the team has a great chance of winning for their section and making it to states. Coach Ruhlman has said “[she is] certainly looking forward to us making states because I think this is our year to do so.” The team is “ranked in the state and [has] been running very well.” She says that “based on [their] performances so far [they] are predicted to win. So [her] biggest concern is staying healthy and injury free because [she thinks their] work ethic and mindsets are where they need to be to accomplish that goal.” Looking at the current position in the season, the team has had great performances throughout the year, especially at invitationals such as McQuaid, the largest cross-country meet in the north-eastern United States. The top runner for boy’s varsity at this race was Juvenal Diaz who placed 25th in their race with a time of 16:56. Moving past varsity, a top runner for this race was Jadyn Trocki for modified who placed 10th for her race. Individually Jadyn has had a great year, winning many races, most notably the Maple Grove Red Dragon Invitational, and leading the modified team. The top runner for female varsity is Teghan Trocki, dropping time consistently throughout the season. It has been a strong season for the Frewsburg cross country team, and will hopefully continue to be so.
