Frewsburg Central High School should have a Chess Club. Chess is a game of strategy and critical thinking that has been around for centuries. It is played by millions of people worldwide, and it is an activity that can benefit students in various ways.

Here are some reasons why Frewsburg Central High School should have a Chess Club:

It develops critical thinking skills:

Chess is a game that requires players to think critically and plan ahead. By playing chess regularly, students can develop their critical thinking skills, which can benefit them in other areas of their lives, such as academics and problem-solving.

Enhances memory:

Many times the game is misjudged by many as ‘very difficult’ for remembering what each piece does on the board, however, remembering what the pieces do is easy after playing the game for learning purposes once or twice. Chess involves remembering different moves and strategies more than what each piece does. As a result, playing chess regularly can enhance students' memory and strategy skills, which can benefit them in other areas, such as studying for exams.

Promotes sportsmanship:

Chess is a game that requires players to follow the rules and be respectful toward their opponents. By participating in a Chess Club, students can learn how to be good sportsmen, which can benefit them in other areas of their lives, such as social interactions and teamwork.

Provides a social outlet:

Playing chess can be a social activity, and joining a Chess Club can provide students with a safe and fun environment to interact with their peers who share similar interests. Who knows, maybe having a chess club would bring people, who you normally wouldn’t be seen with together, into a group with ample opportunity for new friendships.

Joining a Chess Club can provide students with opportunities to compete against other schools or clubs, which can be an excellent way to challenge themselves and improve their skills.
