In General Music, students in grades K-5 will be learning rhythm, melody, expression, singing and instruments. We follow the Game Plan music curriculum and also use Musicplayonline. Grades are entered on a weekly basis on Progress Book.
In Kindergarten students are learning to keep a steady beat, identifying high and low sounds, and ways to use their voices.
In first grade students are learning about melodic direction, to sing the solfa notes so, la, mi, and how to read and play quarter notes, and eighth notes.
In second grade students are learning about tempo, to sing the solfa notes mi, re, do, and how to read and play half notes.
In third grade students are learning solfa notes on the five line staff, form vocabulary and how to read and play whole notes and dotted half notes.
In fourth grade students are learning to sing partner songs, how to read the notes on the treble clef staff and to read and play syncopated rhythms.
In fifth grade students are learning about dynamics, the instrument families of the orchestra and how to read triplets and eighth sixteenth note rhythms.
