About Us

Rendezvous Elementary was created in August 2002, when the 4th and 5th grades moved into the vacated Riverton Middle School. Housing 4th and 5th graders from 2002 - 2013, students were directly involved in selecting our name and our mascot under the direction of Principal Mary Jo Chouinard. The name was chosen with community input, as Riverton is the site of an original rendezvous site used by Native Americans and fur traders in the 1800's. The French word "Rendezvous" means "a meeting between two or more people," and considering the important role Wyoming history plays for our 4th graders in particular, seemed appropriate as the students and staff from four elementary schools (Ashgrove, Jackson, Jefferson, and Lincoln) were "meeting" to form a new school. The students voted on the mascot, overwhelmingly selecting the Rattlers.

In August 2013, third graders joined our ranks as we housed about 600 students for the ensuing three years while a new primary school was built. Three modular classrooms were moved in, computer labs hosted in modulars out back, rooms were remodeled to make more classrooms, and students were creatively distributed to keep them all within the main building for most of the day. In August 2016, the new building was ready for occupancy and third grade moved back into Jackson Elementary, Ashgrove Elementary and into the new Willow Creek Elementary. As part of the reorganization, the school district set aside Aspen Park as a Kindergarten - Pre-K center for the district.

In cooperation with our Parent Advisory Council our campus added an Outdoor Classroom in 2014, spear-headed by STEM facilitator Justin Taylor. This outdoor learning area re-purposed land on the west end of the old track, and includes a community gathering area with seating and work tables, an automatic, solar-powered watering system with cistern, landscaping, environmentally friendly artwork, and an overhead canopy. Our students, staff, parents and community have worked hard to make this a self-sustaining area for educational use of all the environmental resources our area has to offer.

Currently at Rendezvous, we have a student body of about 400 students with a staff of about 75 including certified and non-certified staff. Under the leadership of our principal, Karly Ward, our staff has embraced the philosophy "Energy is Everything!" and we aim for constant improvement in our practice, for the benefit of our students realizing that we are "all born for greatness!"

Rendezvous Parent Involvement Committee or PIC, was created in August 2016 as a new committee to support parent involvement at Rendezvous Elementary. Chaired by the Title I Specialist, and made up of teachers and other staff, they have specific goals, and have spearheaded some big events for Rendezvous Families.

Funding for our many events and RAP website development were provided by the Title I School Improvement Grant in cooperation with Rendezvous Parent Advisory Council.
