Reading

Fourth Grade is a big year for Reading!!! We will dig deep into rich texts and learn how to analyze and support our reading with written responses.

Some of the big Learning Goals this year are:

• finding theme and supporting details in literature

• Reading informational texts to find the main idea and supporting details

• Summarizing both types of reading

• Writing opinions and informational essays to respond to reading

Some of the comprehension skills we will focus on are:

• Figurative Language: Idioms, Similes and Metaphors

• Text Structures like: Cause & Effect, Compare & Contrast, Sequencing, Problem Solution

• Compare & Contrast

• Inferencing: Drawing Conclusions and Making Predictions
