SPRING TESTING SCHEDULE: GET READY

At Freire Wilmington, we know our students are working hard each and every day in their classes.  It is almost that time of year where students have an opportunity to show what they know!  This spring, students will participate in mandatory state testing.  The DeSSA and CollegeBoard tests are an important component of college-readiness and are commonly used during consideration for state scholarships and summer programs. This is your chance to show off what we already know-  Freire students are the best in the state of Delaware!  We will share more specific details with students and families regarding testing, but here’s a sneak peak at the upcoming primary test dates for students.

THE COLLEGE PREP SCHOLARS PROGRAM: 3/22

BEOING STEM SIGNING DAY: DUE 3/31

The 2023 PA | NJ | DE STEM Signing Day is an effort to motivate and encourage students to pursue STEM education at the next level. Selected students will be recognized for their choice to pursue a STEM degree at a two- or four-year college or university.


All DE high school seniors who will be attending either college or university and pursuing a STEM degree are eligible to apply on Tallo.

THE CITY OF WILMINGTON SPRING HBCU COLLEGE TOUR: 4/10-4/14

Mayor Mike Purzycki and Parks and Recreation Director Ian Smith invite high school students grades 10 through 12 to see what's in store for them in higher education as we travel to colleges and universities in Pennsylvania, Maryland and Virginia.


The tour includes visits to Bowie State University, Coppin State University, North Carolina Central University, Shaw University, North Carolina A&T University, Johnson C. Smith University, Winston-Salem State University, and Virginia State University.

HBCU FESTIVAL AT THE MANN: 5/20

Attend the first-ever HBCU Festival presented by TD Bank at the Mann on May 20, 2023! This FREE festival will be an all-day community event celebrating Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) and their vibrant culture. As an interactive college fair featuring representatives from national and regional HBCUs, the festival will serve to engage and inspire the next generation of students while celebrating the rich and varied performing arts that are integral to HBCU culture.

 

The festival will include performances by guest artists as well as live HBCU choirs, marching bands, majorettes, and cheer squads. Attendees can also enjoy masterclasses by choral and band directors, panel discussions on college affairs, and more. There will be food trucks and plenty of family-friendly activities such as face painting, balloon making, crafts, and more around the campus for all to enjoy!

STANFORD UNIVERSITY MENTOR PROGRAM FOR STUDENTS GRADES 6-12

Qualia Global Scholars is a selective, four-week, online academic enrichment summer program organized by Stanford University undergraduate and graduate students for talented pre-college students from around the world with diverse interests and backgrounds.


The program has separate tracks for high school (grades 9-12) and middle school (grades 6-8) students. Students are admitted through a competitive application process and placed into cohorts based on their experience and interests.


This program was designed to leverage the best of liberal arts and STEM education and to empower students to become future global leaders.
