Say Hello to Quarter 3

Monday, January 23 was the official first day of quarter 3, and signifies the start of the second half of the school year!  We are finalizing grades, honor roll, and midterms for quarter 2 and will mail home report cards shortly.  Grades will also be available to all students and families in HAC.  If you need to update your contact information (new address, email, phone number, etc.), email frontdesk@freirewilmington.org.  Please note, any change of address will require proof of residency (i.e. driver’s license, lease, utility bill, identification card).

Report cards this quarter will also include a Mid-Year Attendance Notice that includes specific details around your attendance and tardies so far this school year.  We know how closely attendance is tied to a student’s academic performance and graduation eligibility, and aim for all of our Dragons to have on-track attendance, meaning they are present for at least 90% of school days.

Academic Centers Offers Peer Tutoring

NHS Peer Tutors are here to help students with any assignment, subject, or grade level! Need help starting that essay, studying for an exam, or preparing for the SAT? Stop by Academic Centers Monday through Thursday from 2:30 - 4:30pm.

The Blackout Experience 2023

Freire Wilmington’s Blackout Event Series celebrates Black History and Culture through a series of special events during the months of February and March, including our 5th annual Blackout Experience - an amazing showcase of student singing, poetry, art, dance, and fashion!

We invite all members of our Freire family to take part. If you would like to find out more about the Blackout events, please reach out to Ms. Alexis at alexis.simms@freirewilmington.org

Learn more about this fantastic opportunity for our future female engineers (and their parents) here.  Registration closes February 20.

SPRING TESTING SCHEDULE: SNEAK PEAK

At Freire Wilmington, we know our students are working hard each and every day in their classes.  It is almost that time of year where students have an opportunity to show what they know!  This spring, students will participate in mandatory state testing.  The DeSSA and CollegeBoard tests are an important component of college-readiness and are commonly used during consideration for state scholarships and summer programs. This is your chance to show off what we already know-  Freire students are the best in the state of Delaware!  We will share more specific details with students and families regarding testing, but here’s a sneak peak at the upcoming primary test dates for students.

This FREE festival will be an all-day community event celebrating Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) and their vibrant culture. As an interactive college fair featuring representatives from national and regional HBCUs, the festival will serve to engage and inspire the next generation of students while celebrating the rich and varied performing arts that are integral to HBCU culture.

The festival will include performances by guest artists as well as live HBCU choirs, marching bands, majorettes, and cheer squads.
