What does PBIS look like?

What is Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS)?

Improving student academic and behavior outcomes is about ensuring all students have access to the most effective and accurately implemented instructional and behavioral practices and interventions possible. PBIS establishes the social culture and individual behavior supports needed for students to achieve both social and academic success while preventing problem behaviors.

PBIS is NOT a curriculum, intervention, or practice, but IS a decision making framework that guides in the use of evidence-based academic and behavioral practices that improve important academic and behavior outcomes for all students.

PBIS Core Values

PBIS has three core values:

We are Safe-includes walking on the right hand side of the hallway, entering and exiting the building in an orderly fashion, and reporting any incidents.

We are Respectful-includes following directions, keeping hands and feet to yourself, using appropriate language, and raising your hand.

We are Responsible-some examples are actively participating, carrying a valid hall pass, and using equipment appropriately.

Students are expected to honor these core values in various school and school related settings including the classroom, hallways, library, cafeteria, bathrooms, buses and school grounds.

The Falcon Pledge

I choose to come to school to learn

I choose to be proud of myself

I choose to be Safe, Respectful, and Responsible.

I am a Freeman Falcon

PBIS utilizes a three-tiered approach, offering increased levels of behavioral support at each level.

In Tier I, all students are explicitly taught positive behavioral expectations. All teachers use a consistent approach to discipline

Students who are in need of Tier II supports are provided with small group, targeted behavioral skill interventions that promote pro-social behaviors

In Tier III, student-centered planning is used to develop customized interventions with frequent progress monitoring.
