Each year we begin art class with the same project: a self-portrait. I collect and keep this artwork, then at the end of their time here at Errickson, I hand back students' collection of self-portraits so that they can clearly see their growth as an artist. (It's my favorite day of the year!) In this art lesson we will learn the ways artist make self-portraits.
A self-portrait is a picture an artist makes of themselves. Simple as that! There are many different ways that an artist can create a self- portrait. Some use paint, others clays, some artist try to make it look as realistic as they can, and other artist make them look abstract. Each artist has their own unique way of express who they are.
