In this lesson, we will focus on the elements of art: LINE, SPACE and COLOR. Students will use line to create a Banyan tree. Then they will color the NEGATIVE SPACE using oil pastels.
9x12 Watercolor paper
Pencil + Eraser
Black paint
Oil pastels
Create a horizon line across the center of the page
On top of the horizon line draw two vertical lines for the tree trunk
Add branches to the top. Make sure they overlap to create interest
Below the horizon line, add roots. Again, make sure they overlap to create more interest.
Paint your tree using black paint
Use oil pastels to color the negative space between the branches. Use at least two colors and blend together.
Add water to the bottom of your Banyan tree by blending pastels side-to-side
