Message from Miss Holmes
It was lovely to welcome visitors from the School Nursing Team this week, who spent time teaching the children all about the importance of keeping their teeth clean and brushing regularly. The children were very excited to receive their own toothbrush and toothpaste. We hope these are already being put to good use at home!
You may also have noticed some new signs near the school gates. These have been purchased by the FISHES and will help reinforce the importance of site safety and walking when on the school grounds. It is great to see so many children arriving on bikes and scooters, and thank you for supporting our expectation that these are not ridden on site. This really helps to reinforce our whole school value of Respect.
Learning This Week
This week EYFS have loved learning the story of the gingerbread man. The children have enjoyed drawing round and cutting out their own gingerbread men and using their fine motor skills to decorate a gingerbread man using cotton buds. They also came up with inventive ways to trap the gingerbread man to stop him escaping again !
This week in Year 1 the children have been creating their beautiful Art sculptures using recycled materials in the style of Michelle Reader. The children are using different materials and shaping the materials into the shape of a flower. They have also been using sketching techniques to create an observational drawing of a flower.
Reminder
Please can we remind parents that the school site, including the play equipment and resources are not to be used outside of school hours. This includes the Early Years area and the sand pit. Please encourage your children to leave the site promptly after school.
Exciting Visitor!
We are thrilled to announce that we will be welcoming Steel from the BBC’s Gladiators to our school on Tuesday 12th May for a very special visit!
Steel will be visiting us in his role with Zactiv, where he will be talking to the children about keeping active, making healthy choices, and looking after both their bodies and their minds. His visit will focus on encouraging children to enjoy movement, try new activities, and understand how being active can support their wellbeing.
This is a fantastic opportunity for our pupils to:
Be inspired by a real-life role model
Learn about the importance of an active, healthy lifestyle
Take part in an engaging and memorable experience
We know our children will be excited and motivated by this visit, and we can’t wait to share the experience with them.
Keep an eye out for photos and updates after the event!
Happy Shoesday!
We’re excited to be celebrating Happy Shoesday at school on Thursday 21 May 2026!
Happy Shoesday is a fun way to encourage children to walk or wheel to school and to celebrate the shoes that help them do that every day. There’s no need to buy anything special — children are very welcome to wear their usual, everyday shoes. The most important thing is that shoes are comfortable, safe, and suitable for a school day.
For safety reasons, please note that:
Shoes should be secure and supportive
Open sandals, Crocs, and slip‑on shoes are not suitable for Shoesday
Children will take part in their normal school activities, so footwear should be appropriate for playground time and learning throughout the day.
Thank you for supporting this inclusive event and helping us keep everyone safe while having fun. We’re really looking forward to celebrating together!

Attendance Guide for Parents / Carers
What YOU must do:
Try to telephone the school before 8.30am each day of your child’s absence.
Tell the school in advance, of any medical appointments and bring in appointment cards/letters.
If you are not sure whether your child is well enough to attend school, send them in anyway as they often perk up on arrival.
If you and your child are experiencing difficulties with school attendance then talk to us as a first step so we can help!
What WE will do:
Check your child’s attendance every day.
Phone home to discuss your child’s attendance with you.
Invite you into school for attendance meetings if we are concerned.
If we cannot establish a reason for absence, then we may make a welfare home visit.
