Learning This Week
This week in writing, Early Years have been creating their own Paw Patrol inspired stories. They thought of a character, imagined what their problem could be and how the Paw Patrol characters could come and save them! The children have been adding initial sounds to the pictures and having a go at applying the phonics they have learnt so far.
The children have been buzzing with excitement as they began retelling the story of Excitable Edgar. They threw themselves into exploring the magical winter setting and discovering lots of new seasonal vocabulary. It’s been wonderful to see their imaginations come alive!
History lessons have been just as inspiring. The children loved diving into the past to decide who was the most significant nurse, Mary Seacole or Florence Nightingale? Their discussions were thoughtful, enthusiastic and full of curiosity as they explored who had the greater influence on healthcare.
If you are having a pre-Christmas clear-out and find any foam balls, toy cars, or colouring books we would appreciate them for playtimes please!
Please can we remind parents to try and keep their children from knocking on classroom windows & doors in the mornings, as their teachers are trying to get ready for the day! Thank you!
Lost Property
We currently have a mountain of un-named items in lost property - mainly jumpers and cardigans but also coats, PE kit, lunchboxes, water bottles and lots of hats / gloves / scarves. If you think any of this might belong to your child, please come along before the end of term to rummage through. Anything left at the end of the term will be donated to our second-hand uniform bank or disposed of.
Flu Spray Mop-Ups
Nurses visited us this week to administer the flu spray to those children whose parents had provided consent. If you consented but your child was absent / unable to have their spray, you will be sent an email shortly to book into a "mop up" clinic instead.
If you missed the window to sign your child up, the online form we shared previously will reopen within the next few days, and by filling that out now, you will also be sent an email to book into the mop up clinic.
Please note these clinics will not be at school.
Parking
Unfortunately we have had another complaint this week from a resident of Mapleton Road, whose driveway was blocked by a parent dropping their children to school. Can we please ask again that parents park with consideration when using the surrounding roads.
We have advised this resident to report the driver using the usual link for Eastleigh Borough Council. The same link should be used to report parents parking along the double yellow lines on School Lane.
Many thanks again to the vast majority of our school community who support us with safe and responsible travel to school.
Christmas Performance
This year's Christmas performance will be A Miracle in Town! There will be two performances on Tuesday 16th December (at 9.10am and 2.00pm) and one on Wednesday 17th December at 9.10am.
As in previous years, each child will have 2 tickets, which can be used for any performance. This is 2 tickets total, not 2 tickets per show.
Tickets are free, but need to be booked online here by Monday 8th December. You will need to provide the name of the child the tickets are allocated to, as well as the name of each guest. Younger children will need a ticket if they cannot sit comfortably on an adult's lap for around an hour, and unfortunately we do not have space in the hall for pushchairs.
If there are tickets remaining after the 8th December, these will be released on a first come, first served basis for up to 2 more tickets per family.
Please note this is a whole school performance, where every class is included in the show.
Donation buckets will be available at all performances for our chosen charity this year, Mission Christmas Cash for Kids.
Cash 4 Kids / Mission Christmas
Thank you so much to the families who have already donated to our Mission Christmas toy donation box! We'll be able to accept new, unwrapped gifts and toys until Friday 12th December, the donation box is in the main office.
Our Christmas Jumper Day on Thursday 18th December will also be raising money for Cash for Kids - you can donate online on the day or in advance via our fundraising page.
FISHES News
Thank you to everyone that came to the Wreath Workshop last night. It was such a lovely start to the festive season and all the wreaths were so different!
Christmas Fayre
Tomorrow is the big day! Our Christmas Fayre day is finally here!
Thank you to everyone that has signed up to volunteer. There are still a couple of slots left to fill, if you are able to help in anyway it would be very much appreciated https://volunteersignup.org/LDJWL. An email has been sent to all volunteers with lots of information about the day and a copy of the rota in case you have forgotten where you are meant to be. If you are on a stall that is taking card payment, please can you make sure you have downloaded the SumUp app and made sure it works so there are no surprises tomorrow.
Thank you to everyone that has already brought back raffle tickets. Don't worry it is not too late, tickets will also be on sale on the day and we are able to take cash or card payment. We have a fantastic offering of prizes thanks to a lot of kind donations.
We have got lots on offer tomorrow, we have live music from Steve Stokes, lots of games, stall holders, raffle, lots of food including gammon baps, mince pies, cakes, some lovely warm mulled wine and prosecco and of course the big man himself, Santa! To find out more information about tomorrow please have a look out the Information Booklet
All the slots for Santa are now full, however, there will be a few walk in slots available. To book a walk in slot please see one of the elves at the Grotto (Ms. Riches office).
Although we will be taking card payments, some stalls will be cash only. Please remember to bring loose change with if you can as this will massively help us out.
Class Fundraising Second Chance Shop
There is a second chance to purchase items using your child's Christmas card design. The deadline for ordering this is midday 1st December. All the details on how to place the order is on the card sample that was sent home in October.
Christmas Shopping
Thank you to everyone that has returned their child's shopping labels and money. The deadline for this is 4th December.
For anyone that does not know because they are new to the school, our Christmas shopping day is a day where Green Class opens up as a shop and the children get the opportunity to purchase up to 4 gifts for their family/friends on their own. There are lots of gifts to choose from for women, men, children and babies. They will then bring their gifts home to put under the tree. The children absolutely love this experience and feel super grown up! If we can please ask that the children bring in a carrier bag with them on this day so that they can bring their gifts home in them it would be really helpful.
Nut Free School
We would like to remind parents that we are a nut free school. We have members of both the staff and student community who are anaphylactic to nuts of all varieties. This includes obvious things like hazelnut spread in sandwiches, but also many types of cereal bars and biscuits also contain nuts. Please check the ingredients list of all food items that you send into school.
Year Group Home Learning Newsletters

Attendance Guide for Parents / Carers
What YOU must do:
Try to telephone the school before 8.30am each day of your child’s absence.
Tell the school in advance, of any medical appointments and bring in appointment cards/letters.
If you are not sure whether your child is well enough to attend school, send them in anyway as they often perk up on arrival.
If you and your child are experiencing difficulties with school attendance then talk to us as a first step so we can help!
What WE will do:
Check your child’s attendance every day.
Phone home to discuss your child’s attendance with you.
Invite you into school for attendance meetings if we are concerned.
If we cannot establish a reason for absence, then we may make a welfare home visit.
