Another Brilliant Week at Freegrounds!
What another brilliant week it has been in school. It has been a real pleasure for me to see our children showing so many of our learning values in their classrooms, and a joy to celebrate their achievements with our whole school community. Their resilience and respect continues to make us exceptionally proud. Miss Holmes.
Learning This Week
This week in Early Years, the children have been thinking about role play and becoming different people. They watched an episode of Mr. Ben where he tried on fancy dress clothes and became a zoo keeper! The children have loved creating their own zoos in the tough spot and writing about the character of Mr. Ben.
This week has been an exciting time in Key Stage One. In English, the children have started a new book called The Royal Baby’s Big Red Bus Tour of London. They listened to the story and looked at all the places in London that the Royal family visited. In Maths, they have practised their skills of subtraction and addition using a variety of methods. In PE, the children were very excited as they were able to use the equipment and wall bars in the hall. The children practised the core shapes and practised how to move around the room in different ways. A fun and busy week!
We are currently quite short of volunteers for the KS1 trip to SeaCity Museum on Thursday 26th February. If you have a DBS with us and would like to help, please get in touch with the office - even if your child is not on the trip!
Parents Evenings
Booking for Parent's Evenings are now open.
These will be bookable through Arbor for Tuesday 10th & Thursday 12th February. Please see the office if you are having difficulties making an appointment. Bookings must be made by 10am on Monday 2nd February.
Please note there is one slot per child. Separated parents are strongly encouraged to share an appointment, but where this is not possible it will be down to the availability and discretion of the class teacher as to if a second booking may be made.
Yellow class will see availability for Miss Emery on Tuesday, and Mrs Rigby on Thursday - Please only book one slot, to see one teacher, as any duplicates will be cancelled.
We would like to reiterate the following:
Your parent's evening booking is a 10 minute appointment to discuss your child's current progress in class, and what can be done at home to support them. If you need to discuss anything else, this should be arranged at another time with your child's class teacher.
Appointments cannot overrun, as this throws out not only the next family due to see your child's teacher, but also has a knock on effect for siblings who are due to see other teachers, and so on.
Please do not be offended if your child's teacher has to end the meeting promptly due to this - each teacher may have up to 15 families to see on one evening!
If you are bringing your child/ren with you, please ensure they do not disrupt school resources which will be needed for the next day.
Thank you in advance for your support.

We are also looking for donations of teddies for the Teddy Tombola if anyone has any spares floating around!!
Exciting Plans!!
We are so excited to share with you that after a lot of planning the current pond area is booked in for development in the Easter Holidays. This will be fully funded by FISHES thanks to the money you helped us to raise last year. We will share the plans and progress with you once the work starts happening! We are pleased to be spending the money on something that will see many children through the school and will benefit every child that attends Freegrounds Infants.
Nut Free School
We would like to remind parents that we are a nut free school. We have members of both the staff and student community who are anaphylactic to nuts of all varieties. This includes obvious things like hazelnut spread in sandwiches, but also many types of cereal bars and biscuits also contain nuts. Please check the ingredients list of all food items that you send into school.

Attendance Guide for Parents / Carers
What YOU must do:
Try to telephone the school before 8.30am each day of your child’s absence.
Tell the school in advance, of any medical appointments and bring in appointment cards/letters.
If you are not sure whether your child is well enough to attend school, send them in anyway as they often perk up on arrival.
If you and your child are experiencing difficulties with school attendance then talk to us as a first step so we can help!
What WE will do:
Check your child’s attendance every day.
Phone home to discuss your child’s attendance with you.
Invite you into school for attendance meetings if we are concerned.
If we cannot establish a reason for absence, then we may make a welfare home visit.
