Learning This Week
This week in Early Years the children wrote letters to Ms Riches to convince her that they knew how to look after chicks. Then they had a very special delivery of 10 eggs! Now the eggs have hatched the children have started 'chick diaries' to keep a close eye on their progress.
This week, Year 1 have been learning about the value of different coins and notes. The children used their knowledge of counting in multiples of 2, 5 and 10 to count sets of coins. To start off the topic of money, the children had a chance to role play at playing shopkeepers to buy items using coins. Some children were set a challenge to find the coin to match the amount, some had to find different coins they could use to match the amount and some children had to use their addition knowledge to help purchase two items from the shop at the same time!
This week, the children were captivated by the fascinating history of the Titanic, diving deep into the events that unfolded before its fateful sinking. They also had a blast discovering the magic of tints in Art, using their newfound knowledge to create stunning Titanic-themed paintings of their own!
Easter Bonnet Parade
Our very popular annual Easter Bonnet parade is on Tuesday 1st April . Traditionally, children will make a hat at home to wear during the parade, and families can come to school to watch the parade. FISHES will be there selling the goodies from the Bake Off competition and refreshments. We will open the playground from around 2.30pm with the parade due to start at 2.45pm.
The bonnet does not need to be anything EGGstravagant or EGGspensive, have a look here for some inspiration! Quick and easy Easter Bonnet ideas.
Your child should bring their bonnet and any bakes for the Bake Off into school on the day - see the FISHES section for more Bake-Off information. We would be very grateful for donations of purchased cakes if you don't have the time to make something, but please ensure it is nut free, and bring the cakes in their original packaging!

More awareness of what the children will learn throughout the year would be good. Most of the information on what they’re doing seems retrospective - unless I am missing something!
We did
We have our yearly curriculum overviews on the year group pages on our website. Further information about what is happening in more detail is also available on that page too.
https://www.freegrounds-inf.hants.sch.uk/curriculum/
We do post links for our half termly overviews on our Facebook page. We will make sure we continue to do this. Week by week information regarding English and Maths, along with other information, such as reminders is included in our year group weekly newsletters too.
Nut Free School
We would like to remind parents that we are a nut free school. We have members of both the staff and student community who are anaphylactic to nuts of all varieties. This includes obvious things like hazelnut spread in sandwiches, but also many types of cereal bars and biscuits also contain nuts. Please check the ingredients list of all food items that you send into school.

Attendance Guide for Parents / Carers
What YOU must do:
Try to telephone the school before 8.30am each day of your child’s absence.
Tell the school in advance, of any medical appointments and bring in appointment cards/letters.
If you are not sure whether your child is well enough to attend school, send them in anyway as they often perk up on arrival.
If you and your child are experiencing difficulties with school attendance then talk to us as a first step so we can help!
What WE will do:
Check your child’s attendance every day.
Phone home to discuss your child’s attendance with you.
Invite you into school for attendance meetings if we are concerned.
If we cannot establish a reason for absence, then we may make a welfare home visit.
