Learning This Week
This week in EYFS, the children have been exploring using their senses - They have used their 'hearing' senses to listen to the sounds around them. The children used their 'touching' sense to feel items and describe what was inside the feely box. They have also created some of their own instruments using junk modelling and began to write the pattern they played using mark making.
This week in Year 1 the children have been learning about high and low notes. They have sorted chime bars into long c low notes and high c short notes, sang songs about Goldilocks and the three bears and practiced making their voices have a high tone, middle and low tone for the different bear characters. The children loved making their own music using the different notes.
This week, the children have had a fantastic time in PE, making the most of the lovely sunny weather to practice their ball skills outside. The focus was on bounce pass and overarm throw, where the children lined up, ensured proper grip and leg positioning, and challenged themselves to throw as far as possible while maintaining good form – the children loved it! In maths, they have been working on estimating numbers on a number line and comparing two numbers using the correct symbols. The children have truly impressed us with how much they’ve remembered from Year 1!
School Photographer
The School photographer is visiting us on Friday 27th September to take individual photographs of all the children. If your child has a sibling within the infant school, and you would like a sibling photo taken please visit Yellow's web site below and complete the online Sibling Request Form.
Visit website www.smileYellow.com/sibling
School password is: frinf270924
Closing date for requests is: midnight 20/09/24
If your child has a sibling within the junior school, and you would like a sibling photo taken, please note the details below:
The photographer will be set up in Emerald class (Year 2), and families can arrive at 8am on Friday 27th September to have their photos taken. Please queue up outside the classroom, and a member of school staff will see you in one family at a time. Pushchairs can be left outside due to limited space in the classroom. Once your photo has been taken you will leave through the outside door again to make your way to your usual classrooms.
Photos will only be of children who attend both the Infant & Junior schools - no older or younger siblings, or siblings who only attend FJS etc.
We may reach a point that we need to stop to allow the photographer time to set up for our individual photos, and to allow children to get to both schools on time for registration. We would recommend coming as close to 8am as possible.
Children will need to be in their classrooms for register at the usual time at both schools, or they will be recorded as late even if they have seen the photographer.
Siblings who attend only the infant school do not need to come in early - you need to complete the form via the link above, by the deadline, and we will manage those siblings during the school day.
Please ensure all children have full school uniform on this day, including jumper / cardigan!
New for this year, proof cards will be sent home by email - this is better for the environment and saves some of the workload for the school administration team. As we already hold email addresses for guardians due to our pupil management system Arbor, school GDPR practices allow us to supply them to a third party. Yellow's GDPR statement has the following assurances that the data we provide them “……is used exclusively for ordering, management and delivery of our photographic packages, and not used for any marketing purposes of third parties” AND “…..is not shared with third parties”.
A full copy of their GDPR Policy is available should you request to see it.

Together We Make Eastleigh
Dear Families,
We are excited to announce that Together We Make Eastleigh, a new placemaking project by Eastleigh Borough Council in partnership with town centre regeneration experts Hemingway Design, has officially launched!
As part of the launch, you are invited to take part in a public online survey, which is now live. This is a rare and important opportunity for you to share your views and help shape the future of Eastleigh town centre. Share what you currently like or dislike, and what improvements you believe would make Eastleigh a better place to live, work, study, socialise, and shop.
Find the survey here or through the council's website. Your voice will play a key role in shaping the future of Eastleigh for our entire community.
The survey has some multiple-choice questions and others where you can write as much (or as little!) as you like. Rest assured, all responses will be carefully reviewed and treated confidentially, and your input will directly inform proposals for the town centre’s regeneration.
Please be sure to submit your responses by Sunday, 20th October.
You can access the survey here: https://togetherwemakeeastleigh.co.uk/.
If you have any questions, feel free to contact the project team at ukspf@eastleigh.gov.uk.
Thank you.
Nut Free School
We would like to remind parents that we are a nut free school. We have members of both the staff and student community who are anaphylactic to nuts of all varieties. This includes obvious things like hazelnut spread in sandwiches, but also many types of cereal bars and biscuits also contain nuts. Please check the ingredients list of all food items that you send into school.

School Spotlight
Freegrounds Infant School – Rights Respecting School Award
Freegrounds Infant School is a school where children’s rights are at the heart of our ethos and culture, to improve well-being and to develop every child’s talents and abilities to their full potential. In March 2023, we achieved our Silver RRSA.
The RRSA (Rights Respecting Schools Award) is awarded by UNICEF. UNICEF is the world’s leading organisation working for children and young people and their rights. In 1989, governments across the world agreed that all children have the same rights by adopting the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC). These rights are based on what a child needs to survive, grow, participate and fulfil their potential. The Award recognises achievement in putting the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child at the heart of a school’s planning, policies and practice. A Rights Respecting School is a community where children’s rights are learned, taught, practised, respected, protected and promoted. All children have rights which are inherent, inalienable, indivisible, universal and unconditional. They are 42 different articles relating to the rights of the child. For more information about the convention the Convention on the Rights of the Child by visiting www.unicef.org.uk/crc. For further information about Rights Respecting Schools please visit: www.unicef.org.uk/rrsa
All children are taught about their rights across the curriculum. Rights are the focus each week during collective reflection and are discussed in detail as part of our PSHE lessons. Every year each class makes a class charter. This charter is agreed and signed by the children and adults. It details how we will show respect for each other's rights. Our school ambassador’s work with children across all year groups to ensure children can enjoy their rights throughout the school day.
