Message from Miss Holmes
Another busy week at school! There has been lots of fantastic learning taking place across all classes, and it has been wonderful to see the children so engaged.
On Thursday, we welcomed our governors for a monitoring visit linked to Kinetic Letters, phonics, early writing, safeguarding, inclusion and attendance. They were incredibly impressed by the behaviour of our children, and really enjoyed visiting lessons and speaking with children to hear what they understand about their learning.
It was such a shame that we had to postpone our Sports Morning. The heavy rain overnight and into the morning made it impossible to go ahead safely, which was disappointing for everyone. We are keeping our fingers crossed for better weather on 1st July and look forward to the event.
Learning This Week
This week, Early Years have been exploring a book called My Monster and Me. The children have been thinking about different monsters - nice ones, scary ones and grumpy ones! The children have thought about where the monster might hide and how they could catch the monster. They have had great fun making their own monsters!
Don't forget to sign up for the Early Years Parent Lunches! Emails were sent out to all EYFS parents on 20th May with details of how to sign up and pay for your lunch. Blue class's deadline is 25th June, Red class's is 26th June, Yellow class's is 3rd July.
In KS1 this week the children have been exploring exclamation marks to use at the end of their sentences. They have used this learning to explore different letters and understand the features they need to write a letter. This helped them to write a letter to the Giants to tell them to stop destroying the forest from the book 'Greta and the Giants'.
Warm Weather Incoming
With the warm weather set to return next week, we wanted to take the opportunity to remind parents to please ensure their child has a water bottle and sun hat in school each day. Sun cream should be applied at home before school, with the named bottle being brought in so your child can reapply during the day if needed.
Food Bank Donations
Hedge End Food Centre have asked us to pass on their thanks for the recent donations, which were collected earlier this week.

Current PTA
The current PTA are looking to step down after the next academic year (26/27) and we are looking for people that would like to take over, with the opportunity to be able to shadow us next year to have more of an understanding how things run etc. If you are interested please either make contact by email freegroundsfishes@gmail.com or pop in to the school office.
Year of Reading
We would like to remind parents that we are a nut free school. We have members of both the staff and student community who are anaphylactic to nuts of all varieties. This includes obvious things like hazelnut spread in sandwiches, but also many types of cereal bars and biscuits also contain nuts. Please check the ingredients list of all food items that you send into school.

Attendance Guide for Parents / Carers
What YOU must do:
Try to telephone the school before 8.30am each day of your child’s absence.
Tell the school in advance, of any medical appointments and bring in appointment cards/letters.
If you are not sure whether your child is well enough to attend school, send them in anyway as they often perk up on arrival.
If you and your child are experiencing difficulties with school attendance then talk to us as a first step so we can help!
What WE will do:
Check your child’s attendance every day.
Phone home to discuss your child’s attendance with you.
Invite you into school for attendance meetings if we are concerned.
If we cannot establish a reason for absence, or your child is absent for more than two days then we may make a welfare home visit.
