Another Brilliant Week at Freegrounds!
It’s been lovely to see the children fully enjoying the Life Education workshops this week and engaging so enthusiastically with Harold, Michelle, and Caroline. Their curiosity and participation has been fantastic to witness! I hope they have shared some of their learning with you at home.
~ Miss Holmes, Acting Headteacher
Learning This Week
This week in EYFS the children have had fun learning about the traditional tale Goldilocks and the Three Bears. There was then some visitors in the classroom! The children have created bears, learnt a song of the story and written about different aspects of the story!
This week, the children had great fun learning about capital cities across the UK. They listened carefully to different sound clips and enjoyed guessing which capital city each sound represented. In Computing, the children worked extremely hard. They learned how to log in independently to the Chromebooks and practised their typing skills. We are very proud of the focus and enthusiasm they showed throughout the week!
Handwarmers
Due to the cold snap in the weather recently, we have had some children come to school with single use handwarmers (such as in the picture). Please note that the materials inside these are toxic, and not safe for children as they are quite easily popped or damaged - please do not send them in to school.
Parents Readers
We are currently looking for volunteers to come in and read with the children in Early Years; are you a parent (or grandparent / aunt / uncle) of a child in school who has a few hours to spare?
Families of children in EYFS are welcome to apply, however you should be confident that your presence would not upset or distract your child, especially as you would be reading with children from all three classes, and not necessarily your own child.
You must have a DBS with the school - please see the office for a pack if you would like to apply for one.
Parents Evenings
Booking for Parent's Evenings are now open.
These will be bookable through Arbor for Tuesday 10th & Thursday 12th February. Please see the office if you are having difficulties making an appointment. Bookings must be made by 10am on Monday 2nd February.
Please note there is one slot per child. Separated parents are strongly encouraged to share an appointment, but where this is not possible it will be down to the availability and discretion of the class teacher as to if a second booking may be made.
Yellow class will see availability for Miss Emery on Tuesday, and Mrs Rigby on Thursday - Please only book one slot, to see one teacher, as any duplicates will be cancelled.
We would like to reiterate the following:
Your parent's evening booking is a 10 minute appointment to discuss your child's current progress in class, and what can be done at home to support them. If you need to discuss anything else, this should be arranged at another time with your child's class teacher.
Appointments cannot overrun, as this throws out not only the next family due to see your child's teacher, but also has a knock on effect for siblings who are due to see other teachers, and so on.
Please do not be offended if your child's teacher has to end the meeting promptly due to this - each teacher may have up to 15 families to see on one evening!
If you are bringing your child/ren with you, please ensure they do not disrupt school resources which will be needed for the next day.
Thank you in advance for your support.

We would like to remind parents that we are a nut free school. We have members of both the staff and student community who are anaphylactic to nuts of all varieties. This includes obvious things like hazelnut spread in sandwiches, but also many types of cereal bars and biscuits also contain nuts. Try to telephone the school before 8.30am each day of your child’s absence.
Tell the school in advance, of any medical appointments and bring in appointment cards/letters.
If you are not sure whether your child is well enough to attend school, send them in anyway as they often perk up on arrival.
If you and your child are experiencing difficulties with school attendance then talk to us as a first step so we can help!
What WE will do:
Check your child’s attendance every day.
Phone home to discuss your child’s attendance with you.
Invite you into school for attendance meetings if we are concerned.
