Learning This Week
This week in Early Years the children watched a video of the gingerbread man escaping. They have spent all week designing different traps to catch him, and have then created these in Discovery Time!
In Year 1 this week, the children have been exploring levers and sliders as part of their D&T topic. The children have been set the task to create a moving picture using either a slider or pivot. The children started exploring how to make sliders by creating a moving animal on a page, and then moved onto exploring how pivots worked. They had to decide which mechanism they should use for their own moving animal pictures. The children are very excited to bring their moving pictures to life next week!
This week, the children have thoroughly enjoyed stepping into character and re-enacting Jack and the Beanstalk, showcasing their fantastic acting skills in our role-play areas. They've also been enthusiastic geographers, exploring the human and physical features of Hedge End. They worked creatively to design posters promoting the area and highlighting all the things that make it special.

We want to say a massive well done and thank you to Mrs Shepherd, our school Cook who at the weekend completed her Tough Mudder race in aid of FISHES. She managed to raise an amazing £510 plus £121.25 Gift Aid. Tough Mudder is no mean feat and she did incredibly well!
Cookery Club
Miss Hyde & Mrs Haines have had a successful 5 weeks in their first cookery club and would love to run it again next half term.
They are opening spaces at 10am Monday 19th May via the Arbor app. There will be 6 spaces available on a first come first serve basis, and to give everyone a chance please do not sign your child up if they took part this half term.
Please note this club is only open to Year 2 children.
Lego Club
Please see info here for booking onto next half term's Lego club, after school on a Wednesday from the 4th June to 16th July.
FREE Autism Workshop
Airtags
This week, a child came to school with an Apple Airtag. We would ask that these not be brought into school please, as not only do they pose a choking risk, they are also expensive, easily lost and contain a battery which could be very harmful to our children if swallowed! If you have a specific reason why your child needs a GPS tracker while they're at school, please contact the class teacher in the first instance.
Nut Free School
We would like to remind parents that we are a nut free school. We have members of both the staff and student community who are anaphylactic to nuts of all varieties. This includes obvious things like hazelnut spread in sandwiches, but also many types of cereal bars and biscuits also contain nuts. Please check the ingredients list of all food items that you send into school.

Attendance Guide for Parents / Carers
What YOU must do:
Try to telephone the school before 8.30am each day of your child’s absence.
Tell the school in advance, of any medical appointments and bring in appointment cards/letters.
If you are not sure whether your child is well enough to attend school, send them in anyway as they often perk up on arrival.
If you and your child are experiencing difficulties with school attendance then talk to us as a first step so we can help!
What WE will do:
Check your child’s attendance every day.
Phone home to discuss your child’s attendance with you.
Invite you into school for attendance meetings if we are concerned.
If we cannot establish a reason for absence, then we may make a welfare home visit.
