Message from Miss Holmes
What a busy and exciting week it has been! There was a real buzz around school on Tuesday as we welcomed Steel from the Gladiators TV show. He shared an inspirational talk with the children, followed by a fantastic meet-and-greet and Q&A session in each class. It was a truly memorable experience for everyone.
I can hardly believe we are almost at half term! We have even more to look forward to next week, including walk to School week, our Indian dance workshop and the KS1 trip to the Vedic Temple.
Learning This Week
In Year R this week the children have become bakers! The have followed a recipe creating yummy biscuits and then got the chance to write up their own recipe.
This week in KS1 the children have been thinking about special places to them in preparation for the trip next week to the Vedic Hindu Temple. They have thought of reasons why the places are special to them and have listened to each other so they could draw a place that is special to someone else. It has been lovely to see them working so well as a team.
Reminders
All children are aware of the rules around riding their bikes / scooters on the school site. Please help us reinforce these rules when you drop off and collect. We are still having children in Early Years in particular ride theirs around the track and through the Early Years playground. Thank you for your support!
Change of Menu
Thursday 21st May is a national census day, which means the number of school lunches taken on this day helps decide on our funding for the next year. As such, we have a slight change of menu for this day to encourage maximum participation! The menu will be:
Red choice - Beef Burger with new potatoes and sweetcorn
Green choice - Cheese & Tomato Pizza with new potatoes and sweetcorn
Jacket Potatoes and Hot Tomato Pasta will both be available as usual.
Children with bespoke menus will be emailed their choices separately.
Gladiator!
Tuesday was a day to remember when Steel from Gladiators came to visit! He did a whole school assembly talking to the children about the importance of healthy eating, drinking lots of water and exercising. He talked about his experiences of working as a Gladiator and how he can get nervous before some of the games and the strategies he uses to help overcome this and how he uses his resilience. He then took the time to visit each class and answer any questions the children had the questions ranged from 'What is your favourite game on Gladiators' to 'What is your favourite fish'!! We hope the children enjoyed the day as much as the staff!

Attendance Guide for Parents / Carers
What YOU must do:
Try to telephone the school before 8.30am each day of your child’s absence.
Tell the school in advance, of any medical appointments and bring in appointment cards/letters.
If you are not sure whether your child is well enough to attend school, send them in anyway as they often perk up on arrival.
If you and your child are experiencing difficulties with school attendance then talk to us as a first step so we can help!
What WE will do:
Check your child’s attendance every day.
Phone home to discuss your child’s attendance with you.
Invite you into school for attendance meetings if we are concerned.
If we cannot establish a reason for absence, then we may make a welfare home visit.
