Learning This Week
The children have been continuing to settle into Early Years this week. They have been learning the daily routines, exploring areas of the classroom and outdoor area, making new friends and trying new foods. We are really proud of them!
In Year 1 this week the children have started their first writing unit around the book 'On Sudden Hill'. On Monday, there was a surprise delivery of boxes where the children explored and discussed what else a box could be. It's not a box, it's a ....car, cat bed, a beach, a robot and many more. This inspired the children to bring their ideas to life! The next day the children wrote a list of what else their box could have been.
This week has been an exciting adventure in learning for the children! In Maths, they've been having a fantastic time exploring the world of numbers, mastering the skill of counting in steps of 2 and 10 from any starting point. They’ve also been consolidating their knowledge of partitioning, breaking down two-digit numbers into 10s and 1s, and discovering the magic of how numbers work! Over in Kinetic Letters, it’s been all about fun and creativity as they learn to form the letters m and r. Our target pairs, hm and hr, have added an extra challenge, and the children have been eagerly rising to the occasion with big smiles and plenty of enthusiasm. Well done Year 2!
PE Kit Reminder
Thank you to all those parents who have sent in their child's PE kit so far. These should stay in class to be used when required, and are sent home to be washed each half term.
As the weather is getting a little colder now, a reminder that navy blue jogging bottoms and jumpers should also be included as we still do PE outside when we can!
If your child regularly wears tights, please could you ensure that there are socks in the PE kit for them to change into. Thank you!
Welcome Back Menu!
Our catering provider, Aspens are laying on a special "Welcome Back" menu on Thursday 19th September. All children with special diet menus will be provided with a allergy / intolerance safe option of the menu on this day.
Please see the Aspens newsletter and parent pack below with more information about your child's school lunches!
School Photographer
The School photographer is visiting us on Friday 27th September to take individual photographs of all the children. If your child has a sibling within the infant school, and you would like a sibling photo taken please visit Yellow's web site below and complete the online Sibling Request Form.
Visit website www.smileYellow.com/sibling
School password is: frinf270924
Closing date for requests is: midnight 20/09/24
If your child has a sibling within the junior school, and you would like a sibling photo taken, please note the details below:
The photographer will be set up in Emerald class (Year 2), and families can arrive at 8am on Friday 27th September to have their photos taken. Please queue up outside the classroom, and a member of school staff will see you in one family at a time. Pushchairs can be left outside due to limited space in the classroom. Once your photo has been taken you will leave through the outside door again to make your way to your usual classrooms.
Photos will only be of children who attend both the Infant & Junior schools - no older or younger siblings, or siblings who only attend FJS etc.
We may reach a point that we need to stop to allow the photographer time to set up for our individual photos, and to allow children to get to both schools on time for registration. We would recommend coming as close to 8am as possible.
Children will need to be in their classrooms for register at the usual time at both schools, or they will be recorded as late even if they have seen the photographer.
Siblings who attend only the infant school do not need to come in early - you need to complete the form via the link above, by the deadline, and we will manage those siblings during the school day.
Please ensure all children have full school uniform on this day, including jumper / cardigan!

Nut Free School
We would like to remind parents that we are a nut free school. We have members of both the staff and student community who are anaphylactic to nuts of all varieties. This includes obvious things like hazelnut spread in sandwiches, but also many types of cereal bars and biscuits also contain nuts. It is an emotional management and personal development programme for all of our children. It’s simple, fun and effective. It is based on developing 4 key areas Confidence, Communication, Creativity and Calmness.
Trick Box helps children and adults to:
· Recognise and self-manage emotions
· Develop mindful awareness around mind-body connection
· Build awareness and choices around body language signals
· Create confident, mindful decision making
· Set and achieve positive goals
· Develop communication skills to enhance interpersonal relationships
· Problem solve and create solution thinking
· Create intrinsic motivation and the confidence to try new things in new ways
· Develop a positive mind set building long-term resilience and autonomy
Adults in school will use the Tricks alongside the Empowerment Approach when supporting children in how they can help themselves.
We teach the children specific tricks each half term. These will be shared on our Year group newsletter and on out school Facebook page.
