Learning This Week
This week the children have been celebrating November 5th. They have been recreating fireworks night by painting using cardboard tubes, colourful paints and glitter giving a spectacular effect in the black night sky.
Year 1 have enjoyed their first week back after the half term break. This week the children have been introduced to the new topic of 'Toys'. In DT, they have been looking at different puppets and watching a puppet show. They talked about what puppets are made of, the features they have and who they are used by. The children then had a go at practising a running stitch to help them later on when they have a go at making their very own puppets.
This week, the children had an incredible experience, diving into the wonders of space and science! They kicked off with a Space Day, where the children looked fantastic in themed attire and participated in an engaging workshop. They channelled their creativity into building rockets and learning fascinating facts about Neil Armstrong and his historic journey to the moon. This exploration continued in science, where the children investigated various forces by experimenting with different toys and objects. Through hands-on activities, they tested which items could be pulled, pushed, or manipulated, sparking curiosity and excitement about the mechanics of the world around them.

Co-op Local Cause
We have been lucky enough to be selected by Co-Op in Hedge End as one of their local causes this year. If you have a co-op membership card you can login and choose us as your charity and encourage your friends and family to do the same (you don't have to live locally you just need to search for us). If you do not have a membership card it is easy to sign up www.membership.coop.co.uk/causes Each time you shop in a co-op store you will be helping to generate money towards our cause over the next year.
We are fundraising to be able to buy a book vending machine to have in school as part of a reward scheme for the children to encourage them to discover their love of reading. Reading for pleasure boosts education, social and cognitive development, wellbeing and mental health.

What YOU must do:
Try to telephone the school before 8.30am each day of your child’s absence.
Tell the school in advance, of any medical appointments and bring in appointment cards/letters.
If you are not sure whether your child is well enough to attend school, send them in anyway as they often perk up on arrival.
If you and your child are experiencing difficulties with school attendance then talk to us as a first step so we can help!
What WE will do:
Check your child’s attendance every day.
Phone home to discuss your child’s attendance with you.
Invite you into school for attendance meetings if we are concerned.
If we cannot establish a reason for absence, then we may make a welfare home visit.

School Spotlight
SMSC stands for Spiritual, Moral, Social, and Cultural development, which refers to the broader personal development of children and young people. It encompasses a wide range of values, beliefs, and experiences that shape an individual's identity and understanding of the world around them. SMSC is a crucial aspect of education, as it helps children and young people develop a strong sense of self and an awareness of their place in society.
SMSC is a vital part of education, as it helps children and young people to develop into well-rounded, thoughtful, and respectful individuals. By promoting spiritual, moral, social, and cultural development, schools can help students develop a sense of identity and purpose, as well as an awareness of their place in society. This, in turn, can help to promote social cohesion and understanding, as well as contributing to the overall well-being and happiness of students.
Over the next few weeks meet our school friends: Carla the cultural chameleon, Sasha the spiritual spider, Milo the moral mole and Simon the social stag beetle. They help us with our social, spiritual, moral and cultural development and they are teaching us how to be confident, happy and successful global citizens for the future.
