Learning This Week
This week in Early Years, the children have started the Christmas countdown! The children have enjoyed constructing Santa's sleigh and been helping the elves to label up the presents!
The Year 1 children had a wonderful time on their school trip today, walking to St John's Church. They are now all experts at crossing the roads in 'waves'! When they got to the church, they all had a well deserved snack and a drink, before listening to the Christmas story with lovely crocheted characters. They even managed to see the beautiful star they made for the church, before heading back to school for a delicious lunch.
This week, the children have been captivated by exploring angels and their various representations during RE. They also delved into the Christmas story, sparking thoughtful discussions and reflections. In writing, the children truly shone with their creativity. They engaged in retelling or rewriting the story of The Robot and the Bluebird, showcasing their imagination and storytelling skills. It's been a joy to see their unique interpretations and enthusiasm for writing come to life!
FISHES News
Thank you to all the children that attended our Christmas shop on Thursday. We hope they all had fun choosing gifts for their friends and families and we hope the recipients like their gifts (we have heard that there are some that have not reached the Christmas tree!)
That was our last event for 2024, a massive thank you to the FISHES team and to all our volunteers that have helped at all our events without everyone these would not be able to go ahead.
We have an exciting line up for 2025 which will be shared with you over the next couple of weeks!
After School "Meltdown"
If you and your child are struggling with their behaviour after school, please see the following website for information and advice.
5C Needs
In order to function, it is important that our 5 C Needs are met. We need to feel comfortable, have a connection with the people and environment around us, know that we count and make a difference, and know that we feel capable and can do a task and feel in control of a situation. If we are dysregulated it is likely that one of these needs is missing. Sometimes it is hard to understand what the missing need might be and we often step in to try to fix the missing need or difficulty.
Supporting Parents & Carers
The Hampshire Parent Carer Network have asked us to share the following with you.
Christmas Performance
This year's Christmas show is "It's A Miracle" and will be performed by the whole school. Tickets can be booked through the link below and are free of charge.
Unallocated tickets have now been released so that families who would like additional tickets can order them. Out of courtesy to others, please do not order more than 2 additional tickets per family.
Performances will be on:
Thursday 12th December @ 09.10 (NOW SOLD OUT)
Friday 13th December @ 09.10
Friday 13th December @ 14.00 (NOW SOLD OUT)
Due to limited space in the hall, pushchairs cannot be brought inside, and so younger siblings should be able to sit on laps, or will need a ticket. Please try to ensure that young children do not cause a distraction to our audience or performers!
This year, our chosen charity for donations during the performances is Young Minds, a charity which supports children and young people (along with their parents and carers) with their mental health. Donation buckets will be at each performance for you to give what you can.
Christmas Jumper Day
Christmas Jumper Day will be the same day as our Christmas lunch, on Wednesday 18th December. Children can wear their best festive jumper to school in return for a donation to Save the Children. Donations can be made online via our Just Giving page here, or you can send in a small cash donation on the day.
Please see attached the menu for children on this day.
Action for Children
We are so proud of our very own Darcy, for raising over £250 for Action for Children by telling a joke, every day until Christmas!
Football Club
The Southampton FC Spring term clubs are now on sale via the link below. As always, places will be first come, first served.
Household Support Fund
You may not be aware, but Hampshire County Council provide each school with funding which can be used to provide support to families in need - this funding might be used for supermarket vouchers, energy bills, white goods, warm clothing etc. It is not means tested, and the school is able to be flexible about how it is used.
If you, or a family you know who attends this school, is in need of support in this way, please make contact with the school office in the first instance, and quote "Household Support Fund".
Nut Free School
We would like to remind parents that we are a nut free school. We have members of both the staff and student community who are anaphylactic to nuts of all varieties. This includes obvious things like hazelnut spread in sandwiches, but also many types of cereal bars and biscuits also contain nuts. Please check the ingredients list of all food items that you send into school.

Attendance Guide for Parents / Carers
What YOU must do:
Try to telephone the school before 8.30am each day of your child’s absence.
Tell the school in advance, of any medical appointments and bring in appointment cards/letters.
If you are not sure whether your child is well enough to attend school, send them in anyway as they often perk up on arrival.
If you and your child are experiencing difficulties with school attendance then talk to us as a first step so we can help!
What WE will do:
Check your child’s attendance every day.
Phone home to discuss your child’s attendance with you.
Invite you into school for attendance meetings if we are concerned.
If we cannot establish a reason for absence, then we may make a welfare home visit.

Cultural development
Cultural development involves understanding and appreciating the richness and diversity of different cultures, and the ability to interact respectfully with people from different backgrounds. It involves learning about different customs, traditions, and beliefs, as well as understanding the historical and social contexts that shape them.
