Learning This Week
This week in Early Years the children have enjoyed exploring money. They have learnt the different coins and their values. They have really enjoyed playing shops and have challenged themselves to use the different coins to pay for their items.
Year one have begun their DT topic all about food. First they tried 3 different types of couscous and discussed what they liked and didn't like. They have learnt about the healthy food plate and how to make a balanced meal. They used this knowledge to help them plan their own meals using couscous and a variety of fruits and vegetables. We look forward to tasting what they create early next week!
This week, Year 2 enjoyed learning how to gather and record data by going on a bug hunt! Unfortunately, it was a hot day so there weren't many insects to find, but the children had great discussions about possible bug habitats.
In music, they recapped The Clock Song and used body percussion to practise rhythms. The children explored untuned instruments, played with different sounds and kept a steady beat. Great work, Year 2!
Water Safety Code
As the temperatures rise, families across Hampshire are making the most of the sunshine - whether it’s splashing in the garden paddling pool, exploring local lakes and rivers, or spending a day at the beach.
Summer is a time for fun and relaxation, but it’s also important to stay vigilant around water. Warmer weather is directly linked to a rise in accidental drownings, making water safety more crucial than ever.
Tragically, drowning remains one of the leading causes of accidental death in children. In 2024, there were 136 accidental drownings across the UK, with the highest number of fatalities occurring in the months of May and August. Male children and young people aged 10 to 19 were identified as the highest group for accidental drownings (Waid 2024 Summary for England).
Drowning is Preventable
Children of all ages should be taught how to stay safe around water. This includes understanding the risks not only at the beach or in rivers and lakes, but also at home - where paddling pools, hot tubs and ponds can also pose a danger.
The Water Safety Code provides essential and easy-to-remember information to help children and families plan for their activity and understand what they should do in an emergency:
STOP & THINK: Look for the dangers. Always read the signs and understand what they mean.
STAY TOGETHER: Never go near water on your own. Always have an adult with you.
FLOAT: If you fall in, float or swim on your back and stay calm. Throw something that floats to someone who has fallen in.
CALL 999 or 112: In an emergency call 999 or 112 (for the coastguard)

Attendance Guide for Parents / Carers
What YOU must do:
Try to telephone the school before 8.30am each day of your child’s absence.
Tell the school in advance, of any medical appointments and bring in appointment cards/letters.
If you are not sure whether your child is well enough to attend school, send them in anyway as they often perk up on arrival.
If you and your child are experiencing difficulties with school attendance then talk to us as a first step so we can help!
What WE will do:
Check your child’s attendance every day.
Phone home to discuss your child’s attendance with you.
Invite you into school for attendance meetings if we are concerned.
If we cannot establish a reason for absence, then we may make a welfare home visit.
