Learning This Week
This week in Early Years the children have been talking about families. The children have read the text 'All kinds of families' and have talked about how all families are different, and even animal families. They have drawn pictures and created their family using natural objects like stones, conkers and pine cones.
In KS1 this week the children have been exploring the story 'Jack and the Meanstalk' in writing. The children have been retelling the story using the story map, comparing and describing characters and thinking about what a good friend is. The children have created their own 'Good Friend' posters writing sentences of what they would like in a friend.
Year 3 Open Day!
If your child is currently in Year 2, please see information here about some Open Sessions at Freegrounds Junior School!
Parent's Evenings
Booking for Parent's Evenings are now open.
These can be booked through Arbor for Tuesday 4th & Thursday 6th November. Please see the office if you are having difficulties making an appointment. Bookings must be made by 8pm on Wednesday 22nd October.
Please note there is one slot per child. Separated parents are strongly encouraged to share an appointment, but where this is not possible it will be down to the availability and discretion of the class teacher as to if a second booking may be made.
Yellow class will see availability for Miss Emery on Tuesday, and Mrs Rigby on Thursday - Please only book one slot, to see one teacher, as any duplicates will be cancelled.
We would like to reiterate the following:
Your parent's evening booking is a 10 minute appointment to discuss how your child has settled in the first term, their current progress in class, and what can be done at home to support them.
If you need to discuss anything else, this should be arranged at another time with your child's class teacher.
Appointments cannot overrun, as this throws out not only the next family due to see your child's teacher, but also has a knock on effect for siblings who are due to see other teachers, and so on.
Please do not be offended if your child's teacher has to end the meeting promptly due to this - each teacher may have up to 15 families to see on one evening!
If you are bringing your child/ren with you, please ensure they do not disrupt school resources which will be needed for the next day.
Thank you in advance for your support.

Christmas Jumper Day
This year we will be supporting Cash for Kids (South Coast, West Sussex & Salisbury) by raising money for them with our Christmas Jumper Day event. Children and staff will be able to wear their Christmas jumpers, dresses and festive accessories to school on Thursday 18th December, in exchange for a recommended donation of £1 to our online fundraising page - we will share more information nearer the time!
Alongside this we will also be collecting toys in school for their Mission Christmas appeal. If you are able to, please donate any new, unwrapped gifts in our collection box up until Friday 12th December. Toys and gifts for all ages will be appreciated, but they have told us that they would be particularly grateful for items suitable for ages 0-18 months, and 9-18 years. We have the collection box in school now, so please make any donations as and when you can.
Thank you so much for your support and generosity,
Nut Free School
We would like to remind parents that we are a nut free school. We have members of both the staff and student community who are anaphylactic to nuts of all varieties. This includes obvious things like hazelnut spread in sandwiches, but also many types of cereal bars and biscuits also contain nuts. Please check the ingredients list of all food items that you send into school.
Year Group Home Learning Newsletters
Please see the page on our website for up to date home learning for your child.
Please note that our website is currently in the process of being migrated over to a new server, and so some elements are not available while this is being done. As soon as we have moved over fully, pages such as the year group newsletters will be updated. Thank you for your patience.

Attendance Guide for Parents / Carers
What YOU must do:
Try to telephone the school before 8.30am each day of your child’s absence.
Tell the school in advance, of any medical appointments and bring in appointment cards/letters.
If you are not sure whether your child is well enough to attend school, send them in anyway as they often perk up on arrival.
If you and your child are experiencing difficulties with school attendance then talk to us as a first step so we can help!
What WE will do:
Check your child’s attendance every day.
Phone home to discuss your child’s attendance with you.
Invite you into school for attendance meetings if we are concerned.
If we cannot establish a reason for absence, then we may make a welfare home visit.
