Learning This Week
This week in Early Years the children have enjoyed making "Wanted!" posters to find Goldilocks, who has made a mess in the home corner! They have also enjoyed using puppets and props to retell the traditional tale Goldilocks and the Three Bears. They have been encouraged to make their own stick puppets, practicing their cutting and joining skills too.
This week in Year 1, the children have been enjoying listening to a piece of music from George Gershwin called the Promenade - Walking the dog. They started by listening to the music and tapping a steady beat and then had a go at moving along to the piece of music. The children tried acting out walking their dogs to the piece of music, thinking about what would happen on the dog walk. The children decided on what events would take place at different times during the music and worked as a team to perform this using musical instruments.
This week, Year 2 had an incredible time exploring hands-on design and science! In DT, they worked creatively to design and build their very own moon buggies. The children skilfully constructed a chassis and carefully sawed axles to attach the wheels, showcasing their problem-solving and teamwork skills. In Science, they delved into forces, focusing on pushing and pulling. A highlight was experimenting with bin bags to see how filling them with air made pulling them much harder. It’s been a week full of learning, curiosity, and fun!
FISHES News
THANK YOU!
Thank you to everyone that helped to make the Christmas fayre the success that it was again! Whether you helped in the lead up, volunteered on the day, donated items or performed for us in the hall, you helped us to raise an incredible £3876.51.
Last night we hosted our annual wreath workshop hosted by The Hampshire Flower Hut which was really lovely and lots of wonderful creations were made. Thank you to everyone that came along.
Christmas Shopping Day
This is the last event of the year. Our Christmas shopping day will be held on 5th December, this is a day where your child will get to come along to our FISHES 'shop' and purchase gifts for their loved ones to take home and put under the tree ready for Christmas day. A few weeks ago your child would have come home with an envelope containing 4 gift labels (gifts £3 each). If your child wishes to take part on this day you can bring the envelope containing the written labels and money for the number of gifts they wish to purchase in to the office in advance or on the day.
Cast your mind back to 6 weeks ago at our incredible laser show. The eagle eyed amongst you may have spotted a drone at the event? We were lucky enough to have South Coast Drones UK recording the whole event and the footage can be seen here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SfLL68dOUVw
Hedge End Town Council Community Grant
We submitted an application to Hedge End Town Council for a community grant which we have been lucky enough to receive. This week we were presented with £450. This will be put with the grant from the Co-op we recently received to help complete work in the pond area.
Co-Op Membership
Please can we remind you that if you haven't already to login in to your Co-Op Membership account and choose us as your local cause. Every time you shop in store, scan your card and have us selected as your charity we will receive money over the course of the next year.
Thank you so much for all your incredible support in the first term. We are just finalising the dates for the spring term which we will share with you before the end of the year.
Christmas Performance
This year's Christmas show is "It's A Miracle" and will be performed by the whole school. Tickets can be booked through the link below and are free of charge, but are limited to 2 per child across all showings to ensure that everyone gets a chance to see a show.
Please book tickets by Wednesday 4th December, so that any unallocated tickets can be released, and families who would like additional tickets can order them. Out of courtesy to others, please do not order more than 2 additional tickets per family.
Performances will be on:
Thursday 12th December @ 09.10 (NOW SOLD OUT)
Friday 13th December @ 09.10
Friday 13th December @ 14.00
Any child with more than 2 tickets ordered against their name before the 4th December will have their additional tickets cancelled.
Due to limited space in the hall, pushchairs cannot be brought inside, and so younger siblings should be able to sit on laps, or will need a ticket. Please try to ensure that young children do not cause a distraction to our audience or performers!
This year, our chosen charity for donations during the performances is Young Minds, a charity which supports children and young people (along with their parents and carers) with their mental health. Donation buckets will be at each performance for you to give what you can.
Christmas Jumper Day
Christmas Jumper Day will be the same day as our Christmas lunch, on Wednesday 18th December. Children can wear their best festive jumper to school in return for a donation to Save the Children. Donations can be made online via our Just Giving page here, or you can send in a small cash donation on the day.
Football Club
The Southampton FC Spring term clubs will go on sale on Wednesday 4th December at 12pm via the link below. Please note the Spring term clubs will not appear on the website until the time stated. As always, places will be first come, first served.
Nut Free School
We would like to remind parents that we are a nut free school. We have members of both the staff and student community who are anaphylactic to nuts of all varieties. This includes obvious things like hazelnut spread in sandwiches, but also many types of cereal bars and biscuits also contain nuts. Please check the ingredients list of all food items that you send into school.

Attendance Guide for Parents / Carers
What YOU must do:
Try to telephone the school before 8.30am each day of your child’s absence.
Tell the school in advance, of any medical appointments and bring in appointment cards/letters.
If you are not sure whether your child is well enough to attend school, send them in anyway as they often perk up on arrival.
If you and your child are experiencing difficulties with school attendance then talk to us as a first step so we can help!
What WE will do:
Check your child’s attendance every day.
Phone home to discuss your child’s attendance with you.
Invite you into school for attendance meetings if we are concerned.
If we cannot establish a reason for absence, then we may make a welfare home visit.
