Learning This Week
It's been a busy week in Early Years this week! Alongside all their usual Discovery Time learning, the children have been exploring the environment using their senses. They've loved using their sense of touch to investigate our conker collection, creating routes for them to roll down and practising counting skills.
By far the favourite moments have included lovely Autumnal wellie walks in the woods, making musical instruments to explore sounds, and testing our sense of smell with some mystery 'sniff pots'. The children are definitely senses experts now!
This week, we have said a fond farewell to Mrs White, who leaves us after 10 years working in Early Years! We are sure you will join us in wishing Mrs White all the luck in the world as she moves on to a new Early Years setting!
Mrs Webster from Red Class will be stepping in to fill her shoes to support Miss Emery & Mrs Rigby, whist Mrs Baker, one of our Special Needs Assistants, will be moving into Red Class alongside Mrs Henderson & Mrs Sims.
This week, KS1 have been busy little explorers! They loved exploring maps and Google Earth to discover more about our local area, spotting familiar places from a whole new perspective. In maths, they’ve had great fun estimating on a number lines. We’ve had lots of excitement, brilliant thinking and super problem solving all round!
Parent's Evenings
Booking for Parent's Evenings will open at 8pm on Friday 26th September.
These will be bookable through Arbor for Tuesday 4th & Thursday 6th November. Please see the office if you are having difficulties making an appointment. Bookings must be made by 8pm on Wednesday 22nd October.
Please note there is one slot per child. Separated parents are strongly encouraged to share an appointment, but where this is not possible it will be down to the availability and discretion of the class teacher as to if a second booking may be made.
Yellow class will see availability for Miss Emery on Tuesday, and Mrs Rigby on Thursday - Please only book one slot, to see one teacher, as any duplicates will be cancelled.
We would like to reiterate the following:
Your parent's evening booking is a 10 minute appointment to discuss how your child has settled in the first term, their current progress in class, and what can be done at home to support them.
If you need to discuss anything else, this should be arranged at another time with your child's class teacher.
Appointments cannot overrun, as this throws out not only the next family due to see your child's teacher, but also has a knock on effect for siblings who are due to see other teachers, and so on.
Please do not be offended if your child's teacher has to end the meeting promptly due to this - each teacher may have up to 15 families to see on one evening!
If you are bringing your child/ren with you, please ensure they do not disrupt school resources which will be needed for the next day.
Thank you in advance for your support.
Empowerment Appoach
Following on from the webinar on Monday 22nd September, please see the accompanying flip book below. We hope you will find this resource helpful.
Water Bottles
We wanted to reiterate to all parents that in line with our Whole School Food Policy, children are encouraged at school to drink plenty of water, alongside the milk that is offered at snack time (if you have signed up for this.)
No squash or fizzy drinks should be being brought into school. Currently there are several children (in Early Years in particular) who are bringing in squash or fizzy drinks in their water bottles. Please can we ask that you follow our policy regarding this.
Thank you for your support.
Car Parking
We have been contacted this week by a resident of Hobb Lane regarding a car who parks outside of their house regularly, and makes it quite tricky for them to leave their driveway.
Can we please remind parents to park with consideration at pick up and drop off times. There are many roads within a few minutes walk of the school that you are able to park on, however, please be mindful of blocking driveways / parking on double yellow lines etc.
There have also been many cars parking along school lane, now that we have restricted access to our staff car park. The reason for gating off the car park was to cut down traffic using this road. Parking along it not only endangers the hundreds of families who walk it at peak times, but may also prevent emergency vehicles accessing the schools. Please do not drive down School Lane during peak times.
For more information on where you can and cannot park, please see Hampshire & IOW Constabulary's page here.
Anyone can report parking problems using the Eastleigh Borough Council website.
FISHES News
First aid
If anyone is still interested there is still an opportunity to sign up for the parent first aid course which is being held on Monday 29th September. This is a 3 hour course (12pm-3pm) run by Paramedics who will teach you the skills to be able to deal with situations such as CPR, bleeding, choking and more. These are issues that you could be faced with at home with your own children or whilst out and about, the aim of this course is to better educate and equip you should you ever be faced with them. The course is £15 and is being held here at the infant school. If you wish to sign up please contact the school office before Monday and you will be advised of the next steps.

School Nurse Clinics
We are very excited to announce that our School Nurse Team are establishing face-to-face clinics for parents in our area!
These clinics will run once a half term, from a community base using the Salvation Army Hall in Hedge End, and will provide an opportunity for parents to discuss any concerns they have regarding issues such sleep, toileting, emotional health and healthy lifestyles.
The clinics will serve all local schools, and if in high demand, they may look to increase the frequency.
Please see more information attached - parents will need to contact the team directly to book an appointment.
Currently the following dates are confirmed:
Tuesday 14th October 2025 (9am-12pm)
Tuesday 9th December 2025 (9am-12pm)
If you have any questions, or require any further assistance, please do not hesitate to contact the team using the details on the flyer.
Job Vacancy

Nut Free School
We would like to remind parents that we are a nut free school. We have members of both the staff and student community who are anaphylactic to nuts of all varieties. This includes obvious things like hazelnut spread in sandwiches, but also many types of cereal bars and biscuits also contain nuts. Please check the ingredients list of all food items that you send into school.
Year Group Home Learning Newsletters
Please see the page on our website for up to date home learning for your child.
Please note that our website is currently in the process of being migrated over to a new server, and so some elements are not available while this is being done. As soon as we have moved over fully, pages such as the year group newsletters will be updated. Thank you for your patience.

Attendance Guide for Parents / Carers
What YOU must do:
Try to telephone the school before 8.30am each day of your child’s absence.
Tell the school in advance, of any medical appointments and bring in appointment cards/letters.
If you are not sure whether your child is well enough to attend school, send them in anyway as they often perk up on arrival.
If you and your child are experiencing difficulties with school attendance then talk to us as a first step so we can help!
What WE will do:
Check your child’s attendance every day.
Phone home to discuss your child’s attendance with you.
Invite you into school for attendance meetings if we are concerned.
If we cannot establish a reason for absence, then we may make a welfare home visit.
