Learning This Week
This week in Early Years the children have been learning about the life cycle of chicks in preparation for a very special delivery next week. They have been enjoying the story of Dora’s Eggs and have written her letters to explain that her eggs are not damaged as she thinks, they are actually hatching!
This week in writing, Year 1 have been reading the story "Granddad's Secret Giant". The children have enjoyed predicting what the Giant might be like and then finding out about the secret things he does for the village he lives in. They have created their own "spotted!" posters to tell others about the giant using expanded noun phrases and thinking about the layout of their writing.
This week in Year 2, the children had the most AMAZING time learning about clockwise and anticlockwise turns in Maths! They took their learning outside and with hoops, cones, and beanbags in hand, set up challenges that had them moving around, making turns in every direction. They used the playground clock to help them understand the concept of time while practising their turns. Well done Year 2!
Easter Bonnet Parade
Our very popular annual Easter Bonnet parade is on Tuesday 1st April . Traditionally, children will make a hat at home to wear during the parade, and families can come to school to watch the parade. FISHES will be there selling the goodies from the Bake Off competition and refreshments. We will open the playground from around 2.30pm with the parade due to start at 2.45pm.
The bonnet does not need to be anything EGGstravagant or EGGspensive, have a look here for some inspiration! Quick and easy Easter Bonnet ideas.
Your child should bring their bonnet and any bakes for the Bake Off into school on the day - see the FISHES section for more Bake-Off information. We would be very grateful for donations of purchased cakes if you don't have the time to make something, but please ensure it is nut free, and bring the cakes in their original packaging!
Could you be eligible for Pupil Premium?
When children join our school, we ask parents for their information in order to do a check for Pupil Premium Funding eligibility - also known as Free School Meal eligibility.
If you would like to check again, or if your circumstances have changed and you think your child may now be eligible, you can do the check yourself here. This funding enables children to continue to receive free school meals beyond the universal entitlement of Infant School, free school milk beyond their 5th birthday, as well as helps pay towards school trips, additional activities and resources in school.
You can read more about the purpose of Pupil Premium Funding, and the eligibility criteria for it, on the Gov website here.

After School Clubs
Please see some information about a new after school club, which will run from the Summer term.
Saints football after school club for the Summer term can be booked from midday on the 26th March here: Southampton FC
Miss Hyde and Mrs Haines are really excited to be starting a cookery after school club. This will be for Year 2 children only and there will be a maximum of 6 which will be on a first come first served basis. Spaces will go live at 10am Monday 17th March on Arbor. The club will start Tuesday 22nd April and will run every Tuesday for the half term. The children will have the opportunity to create a different dish each week and will be able to bring home their creations.
Recycle to Read
We are really excited to have joined the campaign 'Recycle to Read'.
Please take your broken plastic toys to one of the collection bins at a participating Tesco store (find your nearest collection point using the recycling point map on the Recycle to Read website). Scan the QR code on the bin to register your recycling visit and nominate the school you’d like to support. Once verified, your Planet Care Point will be added to the school’s total on the School Leaderboard, and you’ll be entered into the weekly prize draw. You can only register one recycling visit per day, earning a maximum of one Planet Care Point, regardless of the number of toys dropped off.
Every term, the top 50 schools on the School Leaderboard will win vouchers from £50 to £500! The next book award day is June 5th 2025. Schools will be awarded
based on their leaderboard ranking at midday*.
The attached picture shows you what you can and can't recycle.
The recycle bins should be located alongside the tills where you would find battery recycling etc.
Parent Questionnaire Feedback
Following on from the Parent Survey that was sent out last half term, we will post the results of each question and one response to feedback each week. Thank you again to those who took the time to leave their feedback.
You said
Gymnastics club after school would be great. As well as offering taster sessions to see if children would enjoy an after school club - for example child interested in Theatre Kids but committing to a 2hr session on something they may or may not like is expensive.
We did
Thank you for the feedback, we are looking into other clubs we could run for the next academic year, to offer a wider range of activities. We will also look into ‘taster sessions’ as it is an excellent way for children to see if they would like the club.
Lip Balms
We have noticed a recent influx of various lipbalms being brought in to school. Could we please ask that due to allergies etc, lip balms should be the plain unflavoured / unscented variety (usually the blue ones), they should be named, and be kept in the child's book bags at all times. Thank you for your cooperation with this.
Nut Free School
We would like to remind parents that we are a nut free school. We have members of both the staff and student community who are anaphylactic to nuts of all varieties. This includes obvious things like hazelnut spread in sandwiches, but also many types of cereal bars and biscuits also contain nuts. Please check the ingredients list of all food items that you send into school.

What YOU must do:
Try to telephone the school before 8.30am each day of your child’s absence.
Tell the school in advance, of any medical appointments and bring in appointment cards/letters.
If you are not sure whether your child is well enough to attend school, send them in anyway as they often perk up on arrival.
If you and your child are experiencing difficulties with school attendance then talk to us as a first step so we can help!
What WE will do:
Check your child’s attendance every day.
Phone home to discuss your child’s attendance with you.
Invite you into school for attendance meetings if we are concerned.
