Learning This Week
This week in Early Years the children have been really excited to talk and write about their pets. They have thought about what they look like and how to look after them. We would like to say a big thank you to parents for sending in pictures as inspiration!
This week the children have loved their music lessons where they have explored the, 'Magical Musical Aquarium'. They listened to a piece of music called, 'Aquarium', and added a range of actions to the music. Next, the children learnt about a range of percussion instruments and had a go at playing them gently and slowly. Finally, it was all put together to make their own aquarium music masterpiece.
The children loved performing as a whole class!
This week in Science, the children had lots of fun exploring what makes their hearts beat faster. They made predictions about which activities might have an effect, carried out tests and then discussed whether their predictions were correct and why. It was a great opportunity to think like scientists!
In PE, the children also had an energetic time learning a new dance. They worked hard to follow the rhythm and beats of the music while remembering their moves . Fantastic effort all round!
School Photos
You should have received an email from Yellow Photography with a proof of your child's class photo, as well as a link to purchase online.
The closing date for orders is Tuesday 24th June, so please order online before this date if you would like a class photo.
Adventure Trail
Please can we remind parents that the adventure trail and climbing wall outside Yellow and Green Class is not to be used outside of school hours - please do not allow your children to climb on it before / after school, while waiting for clubs etc.
Parking
We have received another complaint this week from a resident of Berry Close who has experienced problems with parents parking in their private resident's parking space. In this instance the resident did speak to the parent, who was quite rude in their response.
Please can we remind parents again to be mindful of our neighbours when parking, and to be considerate and polite if you are approached by someone with a parking issue.
May we also remind everyone that parking in the school car park is strictly limited to staff and parents who have obtained a permit from the school office.
Sport's Day
We sent all families an email on the 22nd May with information about Sport's Day. Now we are getting closer the weather is looking to be very warm, so please ensure that your child has:
Their PE kit in school (including socks & trainers)
A sunhat & water bottle
Sun cream applied before school
FISHES will be selling refreshments & pastries while you wait for the events to start, and throughout.
We'd like to remind you that parents are requested to stay within the designated area during the activities to enable the teachers to organise the children. The children should remain with their class teacher and class for the duration of the morning. Teachers and Support assistants will be responsible for taking the children to the toilet to ensure the children are kept safe onsite.
We are very lucky to have within our parent community someone who works for a weather information service, and he has kindly provided us with the following forecast for Sports Day:
"I’m really happy to say that it looks like the weather will be settling down once again through early next week, with high pressure building in and bringing a good deal of dry and fine weather. Through Wednesday morning there is a good amount of sunshine to be expected, although cloud may bubble up into the afternoon, with high UV levels so make sure the kids have sun cream. It is also expected to warm up, with temperatures peaking around 27C in the afternoon, and certainly in the 22-24C range through the morning. "
Theme Menu
Thursday 19th June is Aspen's Monthly Theme Menu Dive into The Deep Blue. This will be a Fish Finger or Veggie Finger Bap, Pasta or Jacket Potato!
Children who have special menus due to their dietary needs will be offered a suitable version of this menu, or follow their standard menu.
FISHES News
Legoland
Thank you to everyone that purchased tickets for Legoland on 20th June. All tickets were emailed out on Monday from the email freegroundsfishes@gmail.com. If you have not received your tickets please get in touch.
Sports Day - 18th June
FISHES will be serving tea, coffee and pastries from 8.45 before sports day outside Green Class before the entrance to the field. We will be able to take payment by cash or card.
Non-Uniform Day - 19th June
Children are invited to come to school in non-uniform on this date in exchange for bottles and sweets. These items will all go towards the Summer Fayre. We ask that you do not donate chocolate items as the weather is too warm and it all melts!
Summer Fayre - 28th June
With the summer fayre just around the corner we are still in desperate need for volunteers, we are slightly concerned we may have to scale back the event which would be a real shame. Also, in the absence of Mr Southern, we really need someone to cook the BBQ so if there are any BBQ kings (or queens) please do step forward!!
Summer Disco - 11th July
Our last disco of the year will be on 11th July. Please see attached poster for timings. Tickets are now on sale on Ticket Tailor via the following link: https://buytickets.at/fishes
Our resident weather man has provided the following forecast for the Summer Fayre:
"It’s a little too far out to put any certainties on things at this stage but the current outlook is that despite some unsettled weather earlier in that week (23-26th) things may begin to settle down for the end of the week and weekend, with a good dry outlook. Temperatures are looking to be a little cooler than Sports Day but still feeling warm with highs in the low 20s."
Summer Reading Challenge
Please see information about Hampshire's Summer Reading Challenge. Hedge End Library will be coming in to talk to the children about the challenge over the coming weeks!
Grapes
Please remember that if your child is bringing in grapes to school as part of their packed lunch, that they are sliced lengthwise.
Nut Free School
We would like to remind parents that we are a nut free school. We have members of both the staff and student community who are anaphylactic to nuts of all varieties. This includes obvious things like hazelnut spread in sandwiches, but also many types of cereal bars and biscuits also contain nuts. Please check the ingredients list of all food items that you send into school.

What YOU must do:
Try to telephone the school before 8.30am each day of your child’s absence.
Tell the school in advance, of any medical appointments and bring in appointment cards/letters.
If you are not sure whether your child is well enough to attend school, send them in anyway as they often perk up on arrival.
If you and your child are experiencing difficulties with school attendance then talk to us as a first step so we can help!
What WE will do:
Check your child’s attendance every day.
Phone home to discuss your child’s attendance with you.
Invite you into school for attendance meetings if we are concerned.
If we cannot establish a reason for absence, then we may make a welfare home visit.
