Learning This Week
Year R have had a great few days settling into school life. They have learnt about the different areas in the classroom and how to tidy them up once they have finished playing! They have particularly enjoyed being in the garden and amazed us with the range of animals they have found. Bucket time has been great for improving listening skills and the children have been really engaged in all the different things they have been shown.
The children had a fantastic time this week exploring number partitioning using tens and ones. They demonstrated great understanding and recognition of numbers through our "Say it, Write it, Make it" activities. They have also thoroughly enjoyed engaging with our fairy tale theatre role play area. They loved creating their own props and resources and their confidence with fairy tale stories grew as they acted them out and brought the characters to life. Well done for a fantastic week!
Each KS1 class will soon be appointing 2 school ambassadors. The children have been spoken to about what this will involve, but if your child would like to stand for one of the positions, please help them make a poster / video / speech etc, to present in class during next week. The children in each class will vote for their own ambassadors.
For PE, KS1 will be going outside for as much of the year as possible. Please ensure your child has a winter PE kit consisting of navy blue jumper / hoody and jogging bottoms / leggings and trainers alongside their indoor / summer PE kit of red shorts & white t-shirt. Thank you!
School Video
🎥 We’re thrilled to share our brand new school video with you! Just before the summer, we welcomed Everything in Motion into school to capture a real glimpse into our day-to-day life—and we think they’ve done an absolutely fantastic job. From the classroom to the playground, the video beautifully showcases the spirit, energy, and community that make our school so special. The video can be viewed on Facebook and will shortly be uploaded to our website. https://www.facebook.com/share/v/1BDBfMVET9/
Pumpkin Competition!
Last year during Collective Reflection Ms Riches cut open a pumpkin to show the children what was inside. The children then counted the seeds and learned that the pumpkin held 238 of them. Ms Riches dried the seeds out and kept them safe over the winter. In the Spring she then held a further Collective Reflection to show the children the seeds again and ask them whether they thought they would grow.
The children suggested that they could plant them and see and this led the launch of the Freegrounds Infant Pumpkin Competition, where children who wanted to take part took home a seed to plant and look after.
Several children have come into school telling us about the pumpkins they have grown. Therefore, the time has now come to find out who is the champion Pumpkin grower and person who is able to grow the biggest pumpkin!
If your child has grown a pumpkin from the seed they brought home from school and they would like to enter the competition, please can you send a photo of your child with their pumpkin and a photo of the pumpkin on a scale which shows it's weight. Please can entries be sent to adminoffice@freegrounds-inf.hant.sch.uk no later than Friday 17th October.

School Photographer
Dear Families,
The School photographer is visiting us on Friday 26th September to take individual photographs of all the children. If your child has a sibling within the infant school, and you would like a sibling photo taken please visit Yellow's web site below and complete the online Sibling Request Form.
Visit website www.smileYellow.com/sibling
School password is: frinf260925
Closing date for requests is: midnight 19/09/2025
If your child has a sibling within the junior school, and you would like a sibling photo taken, please note the details below:
The photographer will be set up in Green Class (Year 1), and families can arrive at 8am on Friday 26th September to have their photo taken. Please queue up outside the classroom, and a member of school staff will see you in one family at a time. Pushchairs can be left outside due to limited space in the classroom. Once your photo has been taken you will leave through the outside door again to make your way to your usual classrooms.
Photos will only be of children who attend both the Infant & Junior schools - no older or younger siblings, or siblings who only attend FJS etc.
We may reach a point that we need to stop to allow the photographer time to set up for our individual photos, and to allow children to get to both schools on time for registration. We would recommend coming as close to 8am as possible.
Children will need to be in their classrooms for register at the usual time at both schools, or they will be recorded as late even if they have seen the photographer.
Siblings who attend only the infant school do not need to come in early - you need to complete the form via the link above, by the deadline, and we will manage those siblings during the school day.
If you have any queries regarding any of the above, please get in touch.
Empowerment Approach Parent Workshop
We are very excited to be holding an online session with families about the Empowerment Approach, which we have been implementing in school for a year. We hope to see lots of you join in the meeting to learn more about the approach, and how it can be used both in school and at home to support our children.
Parent First Aid Course
We are again lucky enough to have Global Medical Training back in school to run a parent first aid course.
During the training they will cover seizures, breathing, fevers, CPR, Defib, choking, head injuries etc. These are all things that could quite easily happen in your home, and appropriate first aid training could mean the difference between life and death and by undertaking first aid training will mean you are better equipped to manage these situations.
This 3-hour course costs just £15 per head and will be held in school; Monday 29th September 12:00-3:00 in Green Class. In order for the session to go ahead we require minimum of 7 people to sign up and there is a maximum number of 20. If this is something you would like to attend, please contact the school office on 01489 782075 to book and pay for your place.
If you have any questions in advance, please do let us know. To secure your place please sign up by 22nd September.

Laser Show 18th October
We are so excited about our upcoming show. It was a massive success last year and set to be even better this year. There will be a bouncy castle, food stalls, ice cream van, stall holders, glow items, mascots and a fabulous laser show. We have a different company doing the lasers this year and it is set to be amazing with some new surprises. Tickets are selling well, don't miss out on the early bird price which will be ending on Sunday 14th September. Please share the link far and wide with your friends and family https://www.laser-illuminations.com/
If you own or know of a company that would be interested in sponsoring this event there are a number of packages available, please do get in contact with us. Sponsorship shows that your company likes to support local events and is good advertising and it will support us by allowing us to maximise our fundraising.
Nut Free School
We would like to remind parents that we are a nut free school. We have members of both the staff and student community who are anaphylactic to nuts of all varieties. This includes obvious things like hazelnut spread in sandwiches, but also many types of cereal bars and biscuits also contain nuts. Please check the ingredients list of all food items that you send into school.
