Learning This Week
This week, Early Years have been looking at pumpkins! The children made predictions about what might be inside the pumpkins and what they might grow into. The children used the sounds they've learnt this week to label p for pumpkin and s for seeds. The children really enjoyed opening the pumpkin to see if their predictions were right and choosing a seed to plant to see what happens.
The Daily Echo will be visiting school next week to take photos of the EYFS classes for their "First Class" supplement which they do each year. We will let you know when we have a publication date! If you have declined consent for Press Photos on Arbor, you will have received an email from us to confirm your choice.
This week in KS1, the children participated in a drama workshop! They enjoyed taking on various roles as King Arthur and the Knights of the Round Table. They all listened to the instructions and shared their own ideas within the group. The children then worked as a team to create a magical potion, thinking of which ingredients would be needed. Next week, the children will be making their own friendship potions!

Scholastic Book Fair
We are so excited for the return of our book fair! All children will have the opportunity to visit the fair during the school day to look at the books, and it will be open after school from Wednesday 15th to Monday 20th October so that families may come along to view / purchase books.
If you are not able to visit the fair with your child but would like them to be able to chose a book to buy, you can send in cash in a named envelope. Please pass this to the class teacher any time between the 15th-20th October.
As well as books, there are always small stationery items such as pencils, bookmarks etc, with prices from £1.
As a school, we are given back a percentage of the money raised during the fair to spend on new books for our classrooms and libraries, so please do come along to support it if you are able to!
Absence Request Form
Please note that Hampshire County Council's Leave of Absence Request Form has been updated to reflect a policy change. Schools are now authorised to issue Penalty Notices to parents who attempt to avoid penalties by scheduling holidays that fall below the threshold, including during weeks containing Bank Holidays or INSET days. This information was shared with parents earlier on in the year but we have been asked to remind our families.
You can access the new form here, or there are printed copies available from the school office.
FISHES News
We are so excited to say that the outdoor classroom funded by FISHES is now finished! This is the start of a bigger project which we are excited to see unfold. The thanks goes to all of you for anything you have ever donated, volunteered at or attended - without you this would not have been possible so a massive thank you from FISHES.
Thank you to everyone that donated to our Bags2 School Collection yesterday. You helped u to raise £129.60!!
Laser Show
One week to the laser show!!!! Our resident weather expert has provided the following forecast:
"The forecast remains dry through the coming week as high pressure dominates, although what is termed “anti-cyclonic gloom” prevails; that stubborn grey cloud blanket that doesn’t seem to shift will be a feature through the week.
Into Saturday, it is looking likely to stay dry with a chance that we will start to see more in the way of bright or sunny spells starting to breakthrough with clear spells overnight. Temperatures are expected to be chilly with highs by day around 14-16C cooling to around 10C in the evening."
If you have already purchased tickets an information booklet will be emailed out next week.
If you are yet to purchase a ticket do not delay https://www.laser-illuminations.com/! We will have:
Stalls
Food vans
Ice cream van
Inflatable
Mascots
DJ
Glow items
Bar
Followed by an incredible laser light show to music.
The good news is if you have not yet purchased a ticket or you are not sure of your plans we will be selling tickets on the gate.
Thank you also to our sponsors White & Guard, White & Company, WGS Tree Services and Be3D Fidgets. If you are interested in finding out about sponsoring of future events please do get in contact.
Although the laser show is just round the corner don't forget that we have the Quiz Night and Wreath Workshop coming up and tickets for these are on sale here: https://buytickets.at/fishes
We are also taking donations of cuddly toys and tombola items for the Christmas Fayre.
Christmas Jumper Day
This year we will be supporting Cash for Kids (South Coast, West Sussex & Salisbury) by raising money for them with our Christmas Jumper Day event. Children and staff will be able to wear their Christmas jumpers, dresses and festive accessories to school on Thursday 18th December, in exchange for a recommended donation of £1 to our online fundraising page - we will share more information nearer the time!
Alongside this we will also be collecting toys in school for their Mission Christmas appeal. If you are able to, please donate any new, unwrapped gifts in our collection box up until Friday 12th December. Toys and gifts for all ages will be appreciated, but they have told us that they would be particularly grateful for items suitable for ages 0-18 months, and 9-18 years. We have the collection box in school now, so please make any donations as and when you can.
Thank you so much for your support and generosity,
Magical Maths
We are so excited that Magical Maths KS1 after school club will be returning after half term! Please see information here!
Nut Free School
We would like to remind parents that we are a nut free school. We have members of both the staff and student community who are anaphylactic to nuts of all varieties. This includes obvious things like hazelnut spread in sandwiches, but also many types of cereal bars and biscuits also contain nuts. Please check the ingredients list of all food items that you send into school.

Attendance Guide for Parents / Carers
What YOU must do:
Try to telephone the school before 8.30am each day of your child’s absence.
Tell the school in advance, of any medical appointments and bring in appointment cards/letters.
If you are not sure whether your child is well enough to attend school, send them in anyway as they often perk up on arrival.
If you and your child are experiencing difficulties with school attendance then talk to us as a first step so we can help!
What WE will do:
Check your child’s attendance every day.
Phone home to discuss your child’s attendance with you.
Invite you into school for attendance meetings if we are concerned.
If we cannot establish a reason for absence, then we may make a welfare home visit.
