Learning This Week
The children have had a super week learning all about shapes as part of the Maths provision. They have enjoyed a variety of activities including; shape printing, shape pictures and bingo, creating 2D shapes from natural resources and a firm favourite, making their very own shape monsters! Don't they look fabulous!?
The Daily Echo have been into school this week to take photos of our 3 Year R classes. These photos will be published in their annual "First Class" supplement on Friday 15th November.
In Year 1 this week the children have been enjoying learning animals in French. The children were excited to find out some animals in French sound similar to how they sound in English. They have also enjoyed spending time with the Saints Foundation playing athletic style games which involving listening and lots of team work.
This week, the children have thoroughly enjoyed writing their non-chronological reports on Florence Nightingale during their writing lessons. They’ve used expanded noun phrases and incorporated the facts learned to inform the reader about Florence’s remarkable life. In Maths, the children have been equally engaged, exploring subtraction using dienes and number lines as efficient strategies to strengthen their understanding. Well done Year 2!

NEW School Support Courses
Dear Families,
There is a huge push from the government at present to get people back into work. We understand that this is difficult for most parents and carers with school drop off and collection commitments. Our ncfe | cache certificated courses are aimed to support parents and carers who are looking to get back into work or change career, that fits in with their families. Our online webinars are run with full tutor support, within term times only and within school hours, making the courses more accessible to learners with children.

Walktober
We are taking part in Walktober 2024!
As we head into autumn, it’s important that we all keep active and where possible, get outdoors. To encourage this, the My Journey Team at Hampshire County Council has invited schools to celebrate International Walk to School Month by taking part in Walktober.
This event is designed to inspire pupils, families and staff to travel actively and sustainably throughout October.
We hope as many of our pupils, families and staff as possible can get involved by walking, wheeling, cycling, scooting, using Park and Stride and public transport more often.
There is a Walktober competition for your child to enter. Each pupil will receive a Walktober Activity Card. Over the month of October, pupils complete six activities (they can do more if they wish)! Pupils can choose from the suggestions list or be creative and think of their own activity too! The Walktober Activity Card forms the pupil competition entry.
Please see the website here for more information on the event and competition.

Our volunteer sign up link for the Christmas Fayre will be going live next week, please look out for the link. More hands make light work!!!

Road Safety
The Road Safety Team are responsible for educating young people and their families on the importance of keeping safe when travelling in a vehicle. Part of this education includes ensuring young people are travelling with correct restraints. Are you aware that 37% of children are in the wrong type of seat for their age and/or height? The Road Safety Team would like to share this car restraint leaflet with you to ensure you know how to always keep your child(ren) safe – in the correct restraint. There are also hints and tips about choosing the right seat, transporting other people’s children and how to fit different types of car seat. To read this informative leaflet, please visit – In car safety parent guide.
Great Coastal Bird Watch
Bird Aware Solent have asked us to share with families the Great Coastal Birdwatch 2024, which takes place from the 19th October to 3rd November. This annual citizen science project raises awareness of the wealth of birdlife on the Hampshire coastline. It helps children understand the challenges faced by seabirds that migrate thousands of miles to spend the winter on our shores.
Children can use a colourful bird ID guide to learn about local birds and to count how many different birds they see. Their bird count will make an important contribution to the Great Coastal Birdwatch, now in its sixth year.
Visit the Bird Aware Solent website for:
Downloadable bird ID guides and counting sheets
Resources about why the Solent is internationally important for protected birds
Resources on migration: why birds migrate and the astonishing journeys they travel to spend the winter on the Solent coastline
Tips from the ranger team on getting young people involved in birdwatching.
The birdwatch celebrates the arrival of migratory birds which return every winter to the area.
In previous years, data has been provided by experienced wildlife observers as well as people trying birdwatching for the first time. Last year more than 100 different species were seen by members of the public taking part.
Nut Free School
We would like to remind parents that we are a nut free school. We have members of both the staff and student community who are anaphylactic to nuts of all varieties. This includes obvious things like hazelnut spread in sandwiches, but also many types of cereal bars and biscuits also contain nuts. Please check the ingredients list of all food items that you send into school.

School Spotlight
Schools aim to promote this British Value by demonstrating a need for rules and laws help to keep us safe and happy. For example:
Encouraging adults and children to work together to create group rules. Discussing the need for rules and how they should be administered fairly, e.g. the need for rules to keep everyone safe and happy.
Teaching children to understand their own and others’ behaviour and feelings, and the consequences.
Working together to create an environment where actions are consistently followed through, e.g. adherence to class rules, follow-ups on discussions and other choices explored after taking a group vote.
Encouraging and supporting children to learn how to distinguish right from wrong.
