Learning This Week
This week in Year R the children have continued exploring pirates. They have looked at the books 'The Treasure of Pirate Frank' and 'Pirate Pete' and have been particularly inspired. The children have created their own maps, stories and pirate packing lists and shown amazing creativity. They even created their own messages in a bottle for pirates to find on pirate day!
This week, Year 1 were lucky enough to have a special visitor come and talk to them all about being an Estate Agent. Mr McCathie from Richmonds Estate Agents came and spoke to the children all about his job and what it is like being an Estate Agent. He spoke to the children about the different types of houses they may live in, as well as role playing being an Estate Agent and how someone would buy a house. This has inspired the children ready to write their house leaflets to sell their houses! Look out parents, your house may be on the market by next week (or pretend!).
What an exciting week we've had in Year 2! In PE, the children showed fantastic teamwork and resilience while perfecting their learned positions and challenging themselves on the wall bars. It was wonderful to see their determination and cooperation shining through! In Science, the children took a fascinating dive into the life of Charles Macintosh. They loved creating fact files filled with amazing facts about his life. Their curiosity and enthusiasm for learning were truly inspiring!

Internet Safety Day
Ahead of Internet Safety Day on the 11th February, please see the document and YouTube video for information around keeping your children safe online.
Parent Reminders!
Can we please remind parents again that the playground should not be used after school. This includes the use of bikes and scooters (which should not be ridden through at any time), and also the use of the climbing equipment. There are signs around the site to this effect, but unfortunately there are still families who are not supporting us with this, which then confuses the children who are trying to follow the rules that have been explained to them in school.
Can we also ask that the children are not allowed to play on the grass, (particularly outside the year 1 classrooms,) as not only do they slip and hurt themselves, they also come in with very muddy shoes!
Before the school day starts, the teachers are busy getting the classrooms ready for learning, so it would also be appreciated if you would encourage your children to not bang on the windows and try to get into the classrooms.
One final reminder is that children should only be bringing in water to drink during the school day. Children have been coming in with squash / juice / flavoured water in their bottles, which teachers will dispose of and refill with tap water. The only exception to this is where we have medical evidence to the support the use of flavourings to increase a child's fluid intake.

Try to telephone the school before 8.30am each day of your child’s absence.
Tell the school in advance, of any medical appointments and bring in appointment cards/letters.
If you are not sure whether your child is well enough to attend school, send them in anyway as they often perk up on arrival.
If you and your child are experiencing difficulties with school attendance then talk to us as a first step so we can help!
What WE will do:
Check your child’s attendance every day.
Phone home to discuss your child’s attendance with you.
