Learning This Week
This week in EYFS, the children have been reading, 'The Colour Monster,' by Anna Llenas. They have enjoyed creating their own colour monster, discussed different feelings they might have and written notes of any worries and fed them to the worry monster.
This week in Year 1 the children have been exploring the poem Sitting at the Harbour. They recapped their knowledge of simple noun phrases, (adjective and noun), as well as explored the suffixes -ful and -ing to change the meaning of a word to use in their poems. The children thought about their experiences at the seaside to inspire them to write their own Sitting at the Harbour poem. They were all fantastic poems!
This week, Year 2 had a fantastic time at Marwell Zoo! The children enjoyed exploring the zoo, especially thinking about which animals would live in the rainforests and learning lots of interesting facts.
Back in class, they have been preparing to write their zoo recounts. The children have enjoyed working with adverbials of time, expanded noun phrases, suffixes and adverbs to make their writing exciting. A brilliant week full of learning and fun! Well done, Year 2!
School Mural
We were lucky enough to have the local artist My Dog Sighs in school today. He has created us an incredible mural in the playground. The children enjoyed watching him create his masterpiece and got to ask him lots of questions. We love the new addition to our playground!
School Attendance
This time of year we are seeing more and more requests for absence due to family holidays, so we wanted to update families with regards to our policy on absence requests for children during the school year. As per our Attendance Policy, "Headteachers can no longer authorise leave of absence unless there are exceptional circumstances. Generally, the DfE does not consider a need or desire for a holiday or other absence for the purpose of leisure and recreation to be an exceptional circumstance. "
As you will be aware, there is a national threshold of 10 sessions (in a period of 100 sessions) of unauthorised absence, after which a penalty notice may be issued by the Local Authority. We would like to inform you however, that under Sec.185 of Working Together to Improve School Attendance, a penalty notice may be issued before this threshold is met in cases where parents are deliberately avoiding the threshold; by taking holidays in weeks where there may be an Inset day, or a Bank Holiday, for example. The school will use it's own discretion as to whether we may pursue this course of action, as supported by Hampshire County Council in their Code of Conduct.
A first Penalty Notice is £80 if paid within 21 days or £160 if paid within 22-28 days. A second Penalty Notice may be issued if a Penalty Notice has previously been issued in the preceding three-year period in respect of the same child. A second Penalty Notice is £160 if paid within 28 days with no option for this second offence to be discharged at the lower rate of £80 : Attendance Guidance for Parents / Carers

Tell the school in advance, of any medical appointments and bring in appointment cards/letters.
If you are not sure whether your child is well enough to attend school, send them in anyway as they often perk up on arrival.
If you and your child are experiencing difficulties with school attendance then talk to us as a first step so we can help!
What WE will do:
Check your child’s attendance every day.
Phone home to discuss your child’s attendance with you.
