I have a passion for education and helping students. I believe that schools should be a refuge of love, fun, and new and challenging opportunities. It is very exciting that our Division is embracing innovation, deeper learning, restorative practices, and a focus on growth over proficiency. I am interested in supporting these initiatives in order to help move our Division forward.
As the Dean of Students at BFMS, I have grown as an administrator by gaining invaluable experiences in addressing discipline concerns in a way that supports students, families, and staff. I assisted in the development of a Deeper Learning Walk Through Form and participated in the observation and evaluation of instructional staff. I have enhanced professional development opportunities at the middle school through the planning and delivering of numerous book studies, blended learning experiences, Twitter chats, presentations, Trauma Informed Schools training, and leading a Restorative Practices Pilot Group. I support teachers and administrators in analyzing student data to plan for interventions to improve the academic and social/emotional skills of students.
My greatest strengths include developing positive relationships with students, staff, and families, transforming school cultures, empowering teachers and students, and improving instruction to increase student engagement and motivation for learning. I believe in continuous self reflection and growth, and I stay current with educational research, trends, instructional strategies, and technology. I believe in developing an educational system that prepares students for the future by encouraging collaboration, communication, citizenship, creativity, and critical thinking.
I have a Certificate of Educational Leadership from James Madison University. I earned a Master of Arts in Counselor Education in 2009, and a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology, with a Minor in Psychology in 2007. I graduated from Franklin County High School, and I have served Franklin County schools as a School Counselor, Family Liaison, and Dean of Students for 11 years.
