Assessment Rubrics

Teachers use rubrics to support learning. Rubrics make assessing the students' work efficient, consistent, objective, and quick. Teachers evaluating an essential learner outcome / specific learning target know implicitly if the student is not meeting, is only partially meeting, has met, or is exceeding the desired outcome. Rubrics enable teachers to evaluate students' performance and assist in helping teachers focus their attention to the key outcomes that the students must obtain.

Rubrics provide students and parents with a clear understanding of what is expected of them. Rubrics also provide students and parents with valuable information about the degree of which a specific learning outcome has been achieved, along with providing concrete feedback that displays areas of strength and areas in need of improvement. This information is clearly shown on the standards based report card provided at the conclusion of each trimester or by contacting the teacher.
