In this unit we will learn about Tourism. Our case study is Whangaroa (Raglan), 40 minutes drive from Fraser High School on the West Coast.
Raglan is a hotspot for tourism in New Zealand. The town has a resident population of 3230 (2018), during peak season Raglan see over 22,000 visitors a week. This impacts on the natural and cultural environment through communities, beaches, waterways, infrastructure, culture and economy.
This unit looks at the issues the Raglan community are being faced with as a result of rising tourist numbers and the sustainable solutions people and businesses are taking to mitigate negative impacts.
