What is Standards Based Grading (SBG)?
Standards Based Grading is a method of assessing each student individually against a standard of learning. In each subject there are standards or expectations of what children should learn. SBG allows you to see how your child is progressing in those expectations. The purpose of this grading method is to provide valuable, detailed feedback to students and parents regarding the progress their child is making toward specific content indicators and learning targets.
Students will receive one of these scores (Needs Improvement, Progressing, Meeting, or Excelling) on their graded assignments.

The goal is for students to be "Meeting" the standard. This means they are meeting the grade level expectations consistently and independently majority of the time. *Remember it is okay if your child is "Progressing toward the Standard". This indicates they are learning but have not fully mastered the standard independently yet.
