PLEASE DRESS TO MAKE A MESS
Most of our materials are washable and we use smocks with messy materials accidents may still happen. Please don't wear your favorite clothes on art days.
Every art class will begin with students finding a seat in front of the board and reading our art message for the day! Here students will be introduced to new material or review what we've started, before we get into art making. Students are expected to follow the school wide jackrabbit expectations of being respectful, responsible, and kind. In art class this looks like participating in lessons, providing positive feedback to their peers, and using materials correctly.
Our art class is a place where we try new things, give our best effort, persevere when things are hard, respect others, ourselves, and materials.
Standards Based Grading
Our district uses standards based grading. Students will be assessed through class discussions, teacher observations, self reflection, and project outcomes. Project outcomes are assessed using the art rubric attached below. Students will use this rubric and other critique methods for self reflection as well.
E: Excelling beyond the standard: I am able to go above and beyond the concepts taught in class and I can communicate how these complex ideas relate to the lesson. I have gone beyond mastery.
M: Meeting the standard: I can demonstrate understanding of the art concepts taught in class and I can communicate how the concepts relate to the lesson. I have mastered the material.
P: Progressing toward the standard: I am beginning to understand the art concepts taught in class and I can demonstrate some of them. I am working towards being able to communicate how these concepts relate to the lesson but I am still learning.
N: Needs improvement: I am working towards understanding the art concepts taught in class and can't communicate how they relate to the lesson yet. I am working towards demonstrating understanding and learning the material.
I: Insufficient evidence: I was absent during the assignment or I did not participate in class so my teacher does not have enough evidence to assess the standard.
