MAY
Field Day is almost here! Students in Grades K–5 will enjoy their Field Day at the end of May, while Grade 6 will have their special Field Day celebration in early June. We can’t wait to see all the teamwork, spirit, and fun in action!
For Grades K–2 we will be focusing on building teamwork, coordination, and speed through a variety of fun relay-style activities. Students will be running, hopping, and cheering each other on while strengthening their motor skills and cooperation. These foundational skills are key as we gear up for Field Day events!
For Grades 3–6, we will add an extra layer of fun to our relay races with potato sack races and Hippity Hop relays! These lively activities not only challenge balance and agility but also get students ready for some of the exciting competitions they’ll see during Field Day. Whether bouncing across the finish line or hopping in teams, our students will show fantastic effort and great sportsmanship.
APRIL
For grades K–2 we will be starting off the month with hockey games—but with a twist! Our K–2 students will be playing on their feet, transitioning from scooter hockey to standing hockey. This is a big step in building balance, coordination, and control, and the students are already rising to the challenge! After April break, we’ll head outdoors (weather permitting) to begin relay races and tag games. These activities are a fun way to keep students moving while practicing teamwork and preparing for our upcoming Field Day.
For grades 3–6 we will be wrapping up our hockey unit with class hockey tournaments to finish the season strong. After April break, we’re hoping to get outside for Capture the Flag—a fast-paced favorite that encourages teamwork, communication, and strategy. If the weather doesn’t cooperate, we’ll stay inside and begin working on volleyball skills. Once students demonstrate solid control of passing, serving, and team play, we’ll introduce one of the most popular games in our program—Walleyball !! It’s volleyball with a twist, using the walls of the gym to keep everyone on their toes and engaged!
MARCH
For grades K-2, we will continue to build on our scooter hockey skills. We’ll start by reviewing the fundamentals of stick handling while riding a scooter, ensuring the students have good control of the ball/puck. After that, we’ll introduce partner passing, focusing on communication and accuracy. As the students become more comfortable with passing, we may move on to pass-and-move activities where students will practice passing to a partner and then moving to a new position to receive the ball/puck. Next, we’ll focus on shooting at a hockey net, teaching proper technique and aiming for specific targets. We’ll keep the activities fun and engaging while emphasizing the importance of teamwork and cooperation. By the end of the month, we hope to have all the skills in place and will put students to the test by organizing a class scooter hockey game! This will give the students a chance to apply what they've learned in a fun and dynamic setting, combining stick handling, passing, shooting, and teamwork.
For grades 3-6, we’re diving right into gameplay, and it’s going to be an exciting month ahead! Each game will start with a faceoff, and from there, the teams will compete, working together to pass, shoot, and score. The outcome of each game will be recorded and added to the class standings, so students can track how their team is performing and see how each match impacts the overall rankings. After each game, both teams will line up, tap sticks, and say “good game” or, as the kids like to say, “gg,” showing respect and sportsmanship. As we progress through the month, the excitement will build, and by the end, we’ll be ready to kick off the playoffs!

FEBRUARY
For grades K-3, we will begin by reviewing our dribbling and shooting skills to make sure everyone is confident with the fundamentals of basketball. After that, we’ll move into some exciting relay race dribbling challenges and engaging shooting games, which will help improve speed, accuracy, and teamwork. We’ll continue these fun activities until Winter Recess. After the Winter Recess, students will be introduced to indoor hockey! We will focus on developing ball/puck handling skills, giving students the opportunity to learn how to control the ball/puck while moving. This will help them build coordination and teamwork as they prepare for more competitive play later on!
For grades 4-6, we will be introducing a brand-new game called "Shootout Elimination." It’s a fun, fast-paced game that combines shooting accuracy with speed and agility! After that, we’ll finish the basketball unit with an exciting round of scooter basketball. Following Winter Recess, we’ll dive right into our indoor hockey tournament. The tournament will be a fantastic opportunity for students to apply what they've learned and put their skills to the test in a friendly, competitive environment. We’ll be focusing on teamwork, communication, and sportsmanship throughout the tournament, making sure everyone has a great time while improving their hockey abilities!!
JANUARY
As we kick off the new year, students in grades K-3 will start by refining their basketball dribbling skills before progressing to passing drills and shooting activities. These exercises will focus on building teamwork, cooperation, and developing essential basketball fundamentals.
For students in grades 4-6, we will start the year by reviewing and refining essential basketball skills such as dribbling and passing, ensuring each student has a solid foundation. Following this, we'll ramp up the excitement with shooting competitions designed to improve accuracy, form, and quick decision-making under pressure. As the students continue to develop their skills, we'll transition into a 3v3 basketball tournament, where they will have the opportunity to apply their individual and team strategies in a fun, competitive setting. This tournament will emphasize teamwork, communication, and game awareness, helping students take their basketball abilities to the next level!!
