FES News and Updates:
FES Memorial Day Recognition: We held a whole-school flag-raising ceremony this morning by our flagpole in recognition of Memorial Day. The students wore their Franklin Friends Patriot Necklaces, waved their own mini-American Flags, recited the Pledge of Allegiance, listened to Grade 8 Memorial Day readings, and sang "You're a Grand Old Flag." Congratulations to the following first-place winners in the Franklin Historical Society Memorial Day Essay contest: Grade 6 Selena Cosentino, Grade 7 Maya Grant, and Grade 8: Amelia Martin. Our town historian, Matthew Novosad, will recognize each of the students at the Franklin Memorial Day program on May 27. See the flyer below.
We had a building evacuation drill today, May 24, 2024. The students and staff did a great job. Please remember that we have one drill per month, which can include a lockdown, hold & secure, or evacuation, usually a fire drill.
FES Families, It's finally happening!!! Volunteers welcome!!! Come join us for a day of community camaraderie on June 22, 2024. We are looking to get a group of skilled builders to help construct the new addition to the FES playground. We have compiled a list of time slots to sign up for and borrowed items needed for the build (Please be advised, " YOU ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR YOUR OWN TOOLS). For those of you who would like to help but are not as handy we will send out another sign-up at a later date consisting mostly of refreshments for our builders. Please contact Cindy Satterfield via text at 202-525-0031 with any questions. Please review the available slots below and click on the button to sign up. - CLICK HERE. Thank you! The FES PTO
The Summer Band @ NFA camp is open to students from any town with at least one year of experience on their instruments! It's a week of music, fun, and friends, ending in a pizza party and concert on the last day! Students can register at nfaschool.org/summer

Dear FES Families,
The updated 24-25 Board of Education (BoE) Proposed Budget Presentation is now available (see below). A reduction of $150,588 was made during the April 30 Board of Finance meeting, resulting in our "Maintain Current Programming" portion of the budget proposal being adjusted to a negative 2.29%. We want to assure you that we have made every effort to minimize the impact on student programming due to this reduction. It's important to note that we are unable to reduce the proposals in special education, high school tuition, transportation, and staff benefits as they are required by law or contractual obligations. For a detailed breakdown of the entire budget, please refer to Slide 22 of the presentation, where you can see where the reductions were made on Slide 22b.
The Board of Finance has approved our adjusted BoE Proposed Budget following the Town Hearing on May 9. The Franklin community will vote on the BoE Proposed Budget at a Town Meeting on May 30, 2024, at 7 p.m.
If you have any questions or concerns about the budget, please feel free to contact me at school, gkeith@franklinschoolct.org or 860.941.7871.
Sincerely,
Mr. Greg Keith
