Physical Activity

SWAC & Hockomock YMCA Partnership

Franklin Public Schools began offering Morning Movement programs in our Elementary Schools through our Lifelong Learning Institute. These programs have grown is popularity and we aim to continue the expansion of physical activity opportunities for student participation across the district at the elementary level. In addition to our traditional in-person Morning Movement Programs, we plan to explore opportunities to include remote and/or hybrid physical activity participation for those who cannot attend school early and for use during the remote learning environment.

We expanded our morning physical activity opportunities for student participation in four of our elementary schools with Morning Movement, Rise and Shine Yoga, and Running Club. We have collaborated with the Franklin Lifelong Learning Institute by posting the Morning Movement coordinator positions at each elementary school which will continue in the 2019-2020 school year. Our goal is to expand this initiative across all six elementary schools.

The School Wellness Advisory Council and the Hockomock Area YMCA have partnered to offer the FPS staff free fitness classes! In an effort to help support the needs of our faculty and staff members, the YMCA is offering access to asynchronous fitness classes. A wide range of options is available, including yoga, strength training, Zumba, and more!

Physical activity provides stress relief and is an important part of self-care. We hope that our staff will take advantage of this opportunity offered by our YMCA partners.

In addition to online classes, the YMCA is also offering small group training at a discounted rate. These classes can be customized to fit the group's interests and is a great way for friends and co-workers to connect and help inspire one another.
