Franklin Public Schools recommends that students take the non-English language assessment in 11th or 12th grade
Step 1: Register to take a non-English language assessment by completing this application form (deadline December 23).
You will be contacted through your Franklin Gmail address with instructions about how to access the assessment and how to choose your testing date. Please check that email periodically after submitting your application.
Step 2: Learn about the format of the assessment.
Franklin High School will use the following assessments to assess proficiency in the languages indicated in parenthesis - Only become familiar with YOUR language assessment:
AAPPL (for Arabic, Chinese [Mandarin], English, French, German, Hindi, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese, Russian, Spanish, and Thai) - Click here for specific technology requirements for AAPPL remote testing

ASLPI (for American Sign Language)

Step 3: Complete and Submit the At-Home-Proctoring Agreement (deadline February 1) (AAPPL and ALIRA Test Takers Only):

The APPL and ALIRA will be taken at home remotely with a parent/guardian proctor during a designated time period. The assessments last between one hour (ALIRA) and four hours (AAPPL) to complete in full. Students must be present to take the test on their designated date.

Step 5: Take the assessment (deadline April 1). Once you have completed steps 1-4, you will receive an email through your FHS Gmail account with a link to the assessment and instructions on how to take it.
Step 6: Receive your scores.
May of current school year: Students who have earned the Seal of Biliteracy will be notified by the school.
June of current school year: Students who have received a "Proficient" rating on the MCAS test and an "Intermediate High" rating (or higher) on the non-English language test will receive an official letter certifying completion of the Seal of Biliteracy requirements and seniors will be recognized at graduation.
